Oh I see back on target eh? Well I think you got it backwards there. Hi-sec isn't complaining about how profitable it is in Null-sec or Lo-sec, Null-sec and Lo-sec are complaining about how hi-sec players can make a decent enough income to ignore them.

While you might have a point about the name 'soccer' (although this is normally put forward by Rugby players lol), why then are all clubs called 'FC' - Football Club - and the football authorities are called the Football Association, Deutsche Fussball Bund, etc?

Whatever you think about American football, baseball, or rugby, I'd still take any of them over soccer. What a dull sport. Weak, limp-wristed metrosexuals bouncing balls off their heads and crying when they break an eyelash.

What seems to be a recurring theme (at least with the UK) is that they love to go on and on about how weak American football is or how stupid baseball is when they've never even played either one. If you actually KNEW how rugby is played and how gridiron football is played and knew the stark differences between the two, you'd actually see that gridiron football is much, much more violent than rugby. Baseball takes much more skill than kicking a ball around the field as well. True, rugby is an endurance sport in which the players are basically playing full contact soccer but able to use their hands. However, there are no spears in the face with their heads, and the tackling is mostly arm tackling because they'd kill each other if they hit them head on. Hence, the pads in gridiron.

By the way, baseball is NOT a sport. It is a game, much like golf is a game and not a sport. I love baseball, but it is not a sport. Baseball is actually quite a relaxing activity, even if it's very competitive. It's great fun, but you have to be good at it and this is why most fans of soccer hate it because they can't play it. They suck at hand-eye coordination and just say, "Bah, it's like rounders!" No, it's not.

Think of gridiron football as a chess game...it's actually war hidden by jerseys and helmets. Every down is a different play, a different strategy. They stop in order to change strategies, not because they're tired. Take a middle linebacker and any rugby player, put them both in pads, and the linebacker will put the rugby player on the ground every time, do you know why? Because their bodies are being used in a different way. In gridiron, their bodies are used as a projectile and are meant to simply bludgeon them to death, whereas in rugby there's a little more finesse.

Bottom line, unless you've played all of them, STFU.

The pads in gridiron are why the violence exists, actually. In the days of leather helmets, tackles were a lot less brutal. It's the safety of the pads that makes players feel invincible enough to deal crippling hits to their opponents. Frankly, I think it's over the top and recent research demonstrating just how much neurological damage gridiron football can do makes me hope my sons never, EVER play it. Here are a few permanent injuries picked up by personal friends of mine in HIGH SCHOOL football:

- Broken back which cost him a college football scholarship and left him with moderate back pain for the past 15 years.
- Repeatedly hyperextended knee that left him unable run or even walk long distances. The sudden loss of mobility combined with his high-calorie diet as an athlete resulted in obesity with which he still struggles today.
- Multiple concussions ignored by coaches which led to migraines and short-term memory loss. This has become a major issue for professional players in recent years and will likely result in some significant rules changes in the near future.

I enjoy gridiron. It's fun to play and entertaining to watch from time to time. But don't make it out to be this amazing sport because of how hard they hit. Those hits can ruin lives.

As for your characterization of soccer, I have to disagree. My oldest son plays it and it's quite a lot of fun. The professional soccer leagues need to crack down on the faked injuries that make their sport such a joke, but soccer requires just as much skill as gridiron or baseball.

The funny thing is that this thread was originally supposed to illustrate the differences in peoples views as opposed to high, low, and null sec. The irony is that the conversation is essentially the same.

yeah. when I played soccer (I do actually think canada should go back to the term football) I wasn't allowed to play forward after a couple times up there. I broke a goalies arm when he tried to stop my shot on goal. as well as dislocating one persons shoulder when they tried to kick the ball at the same time as I did and they went cartwheeling over the ball. then I gave someone a concussion when they tried to get in the way of my shot on goal. the concussions and broken arm were both in the same game about 3 minutes apart.
oh and to those of you thinking that soccer in a sport for pansies, I didn't even get a mention from the referee about this. all 3 were perfectly legal moves, it's just that people underestimated me.
EDIT: oh ya, and I prefer soccer and hockey because they don't stop every 10 seconds for 30-40 seconds to plan their next move, and they are fairly major sports here in canada.
