EVE is the best MMO out there. It may not be perfect but... You just have to go and try another MMO. I know that I will always come back. There's no other company like CCP and no other game so deep and so complete as EVE is.

I really enjoy playing Eve but when I mention it and that I’ve played it for years, they laugh their arses off! What?

Pretty much this.

There's probably a reason, I guess the harder is to admit it Lol

If people invest an amount of time into one thing they'll be reluctant to agree that that thing is worse than something else\a waste of time.

Someone with a number of level 85 chars in WoW is less likely to agree that guild wars is a great game.
Same goes the other way round.

Same goes for someone who's been supporting a sports team.

They feel part of something and build a weird loyalty towards it.

so when you mention alternatives they'll either try it and love it or try it, not understand it, convince them selves they don't like it and then resort to dismissing it every time some one mentions it.

Eve's the first MMO I played, I tried playing wow, I tried playing guildwars, I tried a few others.
Nothing has stuck like eve, I'm terrible at it but it actually feels worth my time when things are exploding rather than theme park mmos where it just feels very spoon fed and "so if I'm good at the game and do this it'll take me x hours but if I'm bad it'll take me x days".

What I mean is, if you're bad at a game that should limit your ability to progress.

I haven't really played any of the other major MMOs, computer games aren't really that interesting to me generally. I played a minor browser based MMO for a year or so before finally joining EVE, I visited the WoW website once, saw the bright colours and felt a bit nauseous and have never been back.

EVE is about the only computer game that's really kept my attention for very long, I like the fact that it takes time to develop a character and other aspects of your game play and after playing those other minor MMOs I hate grinding for skills so the time based skill training allows me to just get on with other parts of the game.

The real thing I like about this game though, something that perhaps I felt other games don't offer, is that it not only makes you think on an intellectual level but on a more common sense and street smarts level. You also have to be the sort of person that can accept you made a mistake and take responsibility for that. This is something you see less of these days in both real life and games in general.

WoW holds your hand until end game, and gives you a cookie whether you win or lose. EVE not only takes your cookie, but laughs at you for bringing one in the first place...

Must of been one of those games where they obsolete all the items every few months in an endless cycle of esculation in the name of "content" Roll

Some things to consider OP.

1. Most of those people who call EVE a joke are playing sword and shield fantasy games and shooters that could not be a more different genre then EVE if they tried. A lot of those sword and shielders switch theme parks every year or so.

2. The ones playing Space Sci Fi Games like Black Prophecy, STO, Battlestar are faction based WASD / Joystick controlled shooter fests. EVE isn't that and they probably shouldn't be playing EVE if they really just want F-16's in Space.

3. EVE is slow. It is long term slow gameplay about building capital and fighting wars that last years and then end and then start up again in a different form. Building power bases and avoiding being crushed. It isn't do this raid, make that level, fight that boss.

EVE is a unique genre of Tactics over flash, liquid expendable capital over guaranteed life long possessions and teams instead of factions. They don't like the game play because they don't like the genre.

EVE isn't a popular genre but for the people who enjoy this tactical capitalistic militaristic sci-fi style their is nothing better.

All of this^

That is something which quick-make-me-powerful hack and slash MMO players cannot grasp.
EVE is not instant gratification and this is not the playstyle that your friends like, Op.

It is a cognitive phenomenon called confirmation bias.

Most of the comments have been quite constructive, No I don’t play WOW would never and will never, I like ships, cars, spaceships, the new MMO that I just started use ROBOTS!, and most of what I have seen it’s almost exactly like Eve, CCP knows which MMO game it is.
It’s good that most of you can list aspects of the game that doesn’t just include ganking or slagging off me; but all the ****you crap, will be playing another MMO in a year or so, the problem is there’s a lot of people here, carebears, gankers, large alliances, and you hate each other, why I don’t know, but what happens when you have learned every skill, flown every ship, fought in every battle that eve has to offer; you have all the wealth you need, all the ships you need, won your battles, what then? I think Goonswarm is going after the ultimate carebear corporation CCP, and they want to gank their arses, when I complete a game either pc, ps3, xbox360, I don’t usually play them again and even though Eve creates new ideas and chapters, there’s still no new skill books to learn or very rarely new ships to fly, most people can do the ultimate DPS, so inflicting that DPS on a carebear can seem to be the only answer, not something I do my self but I can see why they want too.
To all those who posted thought out comments, because there has been a few, then all respect to you.

I used to think that too but in truth EVE made me lazy. Most other MMO's expect me to actually play for three months or so to level up a character and I'm just too lazy to do it.

Meh Eve is lightyears ahead of other MMO's to be honest.

Wow, Star Wars, Warhammer, Aion, and countless other MMO's are the exact same and have an expiry date. wow has been going almost as long as Eve... except look at wow and look at eve.... Eve modern... WoW.... count the pixals on the screen at this stage, dont get me started on gameplay *shudders*

I can see Eve lasting alot longer, even though with alot of the chances i seem to be loosing more and more interest in the game. Hopefully the pro changes outweigh the cons but sure we will see!

I always think its funny when idiots like you bash WoW and say EVE is so much better.

The numbers prove you wrong. Facts are Facts. More players play WoW then EVE, **** more players have quit WoW than have ever played EVE.

Your kidding yourself if you think CCP would not love to have WoW sub numbers. Any MMORPG company would love to have the "failure" that is WoW.

You can like EVE better but stop with this pure nonsense about how EVE is way better then WoW, the number say other wise.

The joke is "tears". The inference is "babies cry." The insinuation is "if I claim you're crying, I dominate you." If I did offer you a glass full of iced tears, and said, "Go ahead, drink up," I'm SURE the tear drinkers would jump at the chance. Well, I could provide a barf bag as an added incentive. You know, if the average age of EVE players was 12, that might work. As it stands, it just makes you look ridiculous - moar tears. Save us all a lot of effort and just have "I'm stupid" tatooed across your foreheads.

...or a life. That's pretty much why I've decided this time around to stay out of null, I really don't want to dedicate the majority of my free time to the success of a digital empire.

If you're hungry for the experience, I have a few alimony payments I'll let you take over.

Seriously. In March my GF built this computer I'm using. Yesterday she ordered a left-handed Razer mouse for me. I've got my own dedicated gaming internet connection apart from the rest of the household...at her suggestion.

AND, she actually listens with interest and LAUGHS when I tell her all the whacky things we do in "here."

Of course, she's not AMERICAN. I foreswore dealing with American women and haven't had a bad day since.
