Yes Eve is my Genre and there are new MMO'S with player driven market 's and corp's, but it seems somehow Eve is driving the niche players away, these MMO don't have all expansions but its only time, they say Eve's not WOW and can't afford to lose 30% of their players and that will kill off a niche game. What?

Eve offers soemthing no other MMO can (as far as I know) : Single shard server, meaning your actions mean something & it's harder to hide in the anonimity of the masses.
It also offers great moments, they might be more rare then in traditional MMO's, but the impression lasts longer. From being able to outrun that lowsec gang chasing you, to participating in a large fleet brawl, it's you doing those things, and there's no solidly written script.
Even the *PvE* content can't escape the PvP side, when ninjasalvagers & baiters enter missions, or when people gank miners. It's up to you to answer that intrusion in your gameplay.

They can.

This idea that a game needs X Population to run is silly. A big company may decide to pull the plug on an MMO to focus staff elsewhere but EVE is CCP's big game and Dust an EVE tie in is their only other game which is not even out yet.

Their was a time when EVE had 10000 people and it can survive on it with minimal staff and still be profitable. Perpetium an EVE Clone runs with 5000.

Thing is EVE is growing not shrinking and their is no big exodus of players coming. They staved the flow from Incarna and have more drive then ever.

EVE is in great shape currently.

I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:

I heard that CCP games have investing companies so I hope they can afford to lose a few numbers as a business, I believe they laid off 100 staff in the us last year! For the last 4 years I’ve only played Eve, but even friends are leaving the game and going else where, i want to be proud to be a member of Eve , not a joke!

what? eve has grown, everytime someone has said " it seems somehow Eve is driving the niche players away" eve has done nothing but grow afterwards.

And obviously it can't be because it's becoming WoW. Think about it, do you know one successful mmo based off wow? That has more subs now than it did when it was released after a year? or even a quarter of what WoW has for players?

That's right, you can't, because making a wow clone is the perfect way to grantee your game will fail.

Eve is still going strong, because it offers something nothing else does. And it's growing because it's not turning into WoW, it's growing because it's becoming a better more useable game. That the neo com or the new items UI, or the new Contracts UI. Look at the missile effects, and the fitting window. Captains Quarters might be useless to us players now, but to new players! omg the PI window, the big screen telling players about the world. It shows them ships they could fly, new changes to the game, nearby missions and agents, what Conchord is.

The new tutorials are sleek and effective. They still need a lot of work but that's teling of how poor eve was before.

It's a lot like sc1 compared to sc2. Hardcore gamers say changes like, being able to move more than 16 units at a time ruined the game, because it made it easier. And on one hand they are right. There is a sc2 mod that turn the game in broodwar. And my APM is 3 times higher with everything you need to click.

When you build a worker you have to remember to go back to that base, click the worker, and make him mine. I the new game you can just rally them to the minerals. So yes this does "dumb things down" since obviously you could gain a huge advantageous by being fast enough to control your 7 stacks of 16 units with different hotkeys while checking each base right at 30seconds to make the new miner go get minerals.

Sorry my point is, while it might be dumbing down the game, it is not doing so without reason. And it's not turning it into WoW or making it anyless of a niche title. It's just driving out players who appreciated the added level of difficultly in a game that literally when I started playing eve, give you about 30,000 of skills, put you in a rookie ship, gave you the basic controls and then, BAM, your in space, go do stuff.

This left only the most hardcore to brave eve's cold universe. And while I might have been there from the start, I love these new changes, and I have hated some other changes that did in fact turn the game in the wrong direction. BUT OVERALL, eve is going to become what it was allways meant to be and what many players and devs could envision a long time ago at fanfest 2. There was talk all the way back then about putting an fps into eve, to fight over planets.

Eve is a force of gaming that almost lost it way. The monocle expansion literally lost eve 50-60,000 subs. While other things like the new items UI, war changes and neocom might SEEM like people hate it, no one will really leave, because there is no where to go.

eve is badass

in 5 years we are going to have the most epic, sick, polsed , pretty, sandbox title to ever see the world of gaming. I mean for gods sake the are adding Mobile Armor mechs to Dust 514, and letting dust and eve players share the same stations so they can meet, and bet on dust matches/ gamble over a game of texas hold'em. Then you undock and shoot the planet.

They are going to let us undock from our ships into asteroids and explore on foot, and if our ship outside is killed, the only way back is with a bullet to your own skull.

EvE Online is and will always be, the most impressive mmo ever made. At least until they stop putting 300 people on it a year and let some other mmo catch up in the future. But at the moment, I really do believe them when they say they have a 10 year long plan for eve and dust. And where it takes us will be an exciting ride as it gets easier and easier for more players to GET eve when they log in. The more the merrier!

While I agree with you that this is indeed the case, I'm perplexed as to why this is so, considering that the majority of expressed sentiment is in favor of reducing risk, discouraging non-consensual interaction, and essentially "gentrifying" the game.

Half the forum posts are literally "game X allows me to do this and that, EVE needs to as well before it dies."

And you say you play guild wars- WoW and eve etc etc players will laugh
If you say you play WoW others will laugh
If you play aion all will laugh

The list goes on and on and on. No MMO player will accept you play other MMO. I was reprimanded by CCP manifest for saying I would be playing WoT during a fail patch.

Good luck being proud of being a member of any MMO community. In my experience it doesn't matter what you play; if it happens to be a video game people don't take you seriously and think you're a joke. My Mom in fact looks at me like I'm an idiot when I tell her about CCP and how they are an Icelandic company, even while she is babbling about some cousin named Haldor she just met online who lives in the Westman Islands of Iceland.

She, and my brother, figure they are a video game company, and thus not a 'real' company and shouldn't be taken seriously. This is what I have to assume anyway from their looks of barely concealed disgust.

Then she tells me I should go on some trip to Iceland with some program for learning Icelandic for people with Icelandic backgrounds, and I get to look at her with disgust. I'm foolish for playing a video game that has nothing to do with reality, but she wants me to run off to Iceland and drop my job, stop paying rent, leave my stuff, etc... with my awesome ~1200 $/month income, (which I won't have any more), and no savings.... wtf; now who's being unrealistic?

Mothers day is great isn't it.

So, don't expect people to think you're cool for playing a game. Most people will just roll their eyes or go "wtf; who cares?" when you mention a game to them, and the only people who get any respect for playing video games are the ones that set up a kinect for their kids or play NHL 2009.

Sounds like Jita to me Lol

Other MMO's? Pffft, Eve is the first MMO I played, I've tried Rift, WoW and STO (my god it's an abomination) and I found they didn't compare to the depth and downright nasty bastard player made content in Eve. I play because Eve is hard, compared to the themeparks out there, & is full of people with plans for galactic domination, pirates, gankers, nullbears and carebears alike

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Not really... just look at the trail of corpses since 2003. EVE is the Wild Bill Hickok of MMORPGs - safest bet for last man standing until some Dev decides to sit with his back to the door.

I heard Blizzard, Sony, Trion, CCP, Lucasfilms, Funcom, and every game company in Korea are jokes. And that was in the last week.

Game forums are so entertaining to read up on over the years. 90% of the conversations repeat over and over. It's like an old soap opera.

Everybody in this topic say Eve is the best mmo but in the others talk about changes ! If you love it why want changes and change the community playing it ?
Allways talk about high sec players or null sec players... Eve is the best MMo because everybody can find his own way and style of playing !
