ACtually, PvPing in cheap-ass (or free) ships has always been easier than in those costing some isk.

Pretty much.

My corp is a cheap-ass/free solo/small gang PvP corp and in my opinion we're doing alright. You don't need a bling-Cynabal to fight a blob. You could just go fight something else. Or... just throw your five T1-fit frogates at their blob, kill a couple of interceptors, die, and laugh all the way home, where you get more frigates.

This. People so uptight over losses and K/D ratios often forget what you just pointed out. Hop in a few frigates and die in a fire! Twisted

We do a lot of small gang stuff and we run into many of the issues mentioned above. The game mechanics are well biased toward the blob. We still trudge along..killing what we can, avoiding the blops and bridges as best we can.

That is why we run with smart bombs on ships. Eliminates the opponents drones, then you can drop your own.

EVE pvp can be traced back to many nerfs and buffs. EVE went from a game where solo, and small gang PVP actually used to be very abundant but we'll take a look at why it has become so hard to do anything without a blob behind you.

In no particular order -

6) ECM drones - most overpowered module in the game, anyone can fit them and they seem to be just as strong as a maxed skilled falcon. Yes smartbombs kill them, but if they jam you and you kill them they still hold the jam for 20 seconds, which is huge in PVP. Also ECCM modules do not work!

Anyways there used to be a time before any of this, and it was wonderful. But if you can overcome all these things and more, then you are in the 5%. So GL to everyone, and remembering all these changes just makes me sad 8(.

lol

Quick addition to number 6: I used two ECCMs in an abaddon during a fleet fight, and i got jammed by a hornet ec-300. How is that even possible with them drones having 1 ecm jam strength, and the abaddons sensor strength at atleast 60+ with two eccms....

Chance based mechanics suck? How is it that in Civilization a spearman used to be able to defeat a tank (sometimes)?

CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

Because he cought the tank crew dozing and stuck the spear through the eye slits (or exhaust port) in the armor.P

There are a lot of reasons why smartbombs are bad, especially on solo ships. I pretty much wouldn't bother with anything other than a heavy smartbomb on a battleship that can easily fit it, because:

- Medium smartbombs are difficult to fit, using the more grid and 2-3 times the CPU of a meta neut
- Mediums also use a lot of cap, almost as much as an MWD
- Mediums still take three activations to kill light ECM drones, to say nothing of mediums. If you start bombing when they're deployed, you can potentially still spend 40 seconds jammed (since they continue jamming after they die lmao)
- Smalls take forever to kill anything and are basically worthless because, for the size of ship that would fit smalls, the fight is pretty much decided in that time frame
- (Universal for smartbombs) They can't be used on stations or gates, which are two of the most popular places for fights

Keep in mind this is for solo/small gang ships, smartbombs are still good for clearing drones in fleets and stuff
