Downloading/updating EVE+Patches = Sloppy and erractic.

When it comes to downloading EvE and it's patches or updating clients Eve has always been, at best, sloppy, erratic and a major pain in the blankity blank.

Once again my Singularity Client has somehow(by the action of an automatic update I deduct) been reworked, turning it into a Tranquility Client. Oh joy. Alrighty then, I'll just run the launcher again and see if it turns it back into a Singularity Client. Nope. Welp, time to download a patch....

Oh well according to "http://community.eveonline.com/patches/patches.asp":

Quote:
Patches for Tranquility

Updates to the EVE Client will be done through the launcher from now on.

Yes, that was my understanding of what the new launcher would do. But I have yet to figure out how that works. Lets try it again......Well I can import or export patches......the Patches folder has nothing in it...... Big surprise. Export the current patch? You mean the patch that turned my Singularity client into a Tranquility client? No thank you. Welp, seems there no available way to download a patch to turn my Singularity client BACK in a Singularity Client. Guess I'll just have to download the full Singularity Installer and start over.

*downloads said installer*

Well, it seems now matter where or how I choose to install the client, the installer will always, by default, deny me the possibility of installing because the file path name is apparently "invalid" no matter where it is beening installed to or whether it's a default local or a custom location. Oh joy. Guess I'll have to give a shot at the offline installer.

Great. Now I just have to wait 4-5 hours for the 2 compressed payload files to download. This has been a remarkably simple and quick process......

I've spent 3 hours trying to turn my Singularity client back into a singularity client after it said it needed an update to the test server, but the update turn it into a tranquility client. Now I've looking at another 4-5 hours just to get back on the test server.

CCP, can you understand my frustration?

My Sisi client also just produced a ~400meg EVE_Online_374213-369870_win.patch file. Note the version numbers.

Cancelled that downgrade from applying, and it's back to thinking it's a Sisi install again now it seems.

Doesn't explain why the SisiLauncher is atm constantly willing to apply a ~3meg repair if I ask it to Repair my Test Client, and does nothing extra if I just click Launch Sisi and get the regular launcher which validates fine.

I don't quite follow you.

Well not only are there stealth patches that lack notes between correct incrementing versions, sometimes the mechanism gets it wrong and does random updates without any provoking.

FWIW I recall for Crucible I was able to copy my updated Sisi over my TQ install and it patched with minimal difference, rather than several gigs, so sometimes it works well at just doing the diff.

Eh. I just guess I don't understand this system and the specifics very well....What?

Are you suggesting a way to fix it without wait 4 hours for the full offline DL?

I would just really appreciate a response from CCP and for them to fix the system or come up with a better one.

Do you have SisiLauncher? Not the now-regular client launcher for Sisi, but the tool to create Sisi or Duality installs from a TQ one?

I don't believe so. Don't think I've even heard of it.

Enjoy.

Just read the path description, it's where the test server install will go, don't point it at your TQ install.

Unless of course it's where my NEW TQ install is. That is, what my Sisi should be.

Use this. Seriously. I used to have tons of patching issues with the client launcher. The Sisi launcher fixed all of that.
