I know of a few people who shall not be named who do not honor ransoms. Seems the old days of Python and the Black Rabbits are few and far between. I may rustle a few feathers when I say this but you are scum if you don't honor a ransom.

Not scum as in I'm cool and your tears are so sweet. More like I stepped in dog Sh^% and washed it off my boot type scum. Then again I'm old fashioned

There's nothing that garners respect more among your targets and word of mouth than upholding your word. Especially if you try to go for another ransom again and that reputation has now been tarnished by your stupidity.

I will say this though. Don't fall for stupid. They seem like their stalling so their buddies can save him? Kill him. Won't pay up a desired amount that is reasonable or does the old blinky wallet trick? Kill him.

Bitches and moans to the point you have such a headache you want to punch a newborn? Kill him.

I've had the pleasure of having many a ransom and continue to honor such. Even us Pirates have some honor.

That's pretty much it. Because of these few cases, I will just self-destruct the ship, even if it's worth 500m and they ask for a 50m ransom. This doesn't just ruin it for the dishonorable pirate, but all pirates. I used to test integrity in wow by handing out people in my guild 2000 gold each when they first join. I tell them it's a loan, and they can pay it back whenever, or never, No payment plan, no agreement, just put it back when you can. It's that leap of faith which garnered respect, as you say. I don't think anyone ever took the gold and never returned it, there are plenty of honorable people out there.

However; I do believe you should disclose the names of other dishonorable pirates, I don't see the point of defending 'off my shoe scum'.

Agreed, although it's still not going to matter if they say they honor ransoms or not; Until there's a real trend of pirates beginning to honor their word, if you try to ransom me, you get a self-destruct.

First integrity and Piracy kinda are polar opposites. We lie, cheat, steal etc etc so by all logic you should expect to be scammed. However like I explained earlier it's not lucrative.

Sure you may have a faction mod on your ship but if it goes pop there goes my profit margin. And really comparing a loan in wow to something in Eve is well loose at best.

You don't risk having everything in the guild stolen or burned to the ground from insiders who may want nothing except that.

Also another factor is interaction. I enjoy opening chat with some poor dying soul watching his ship writhe in flames as I casually check the toons age, stats etc as well as the ship itself.

Now two things may happen. Or well three. Either 1 the person is so desperate he'll throw isk at me (a missioner, new player etc) or 2 will as you stated refuse to pay or self destruct. And my particular favorite is 3. Kick and scream and hurl so many insults in one paragraph I log it and post it as a juicy mail in corp before said insect goes kaboom.

Also no. I don't keep tabs on other Pirates like that and there are a few out there I fly with or have flown with who could care less.

Me there's nothing quite intoxicating as having someone beg for mercy, see that isk flow and have the power to unclick that warp disruptor and watch them limp away knowing that at any moment I could have ended their little adventure.

Oh and yeah people tend to pay up more if they got shiny **** in their head.

There are sadly few true Pirates left in Eve. it's all about damned killboards, or stats, or something of that nature. I remember my first ransom. I was shaking with excitement as I found some poor bastard in a belt ratting and he paid up. A mere 10 million isk.

I've gotten ransoms as high as hundreds of millions though those are maybe once in a blue blue moon. And it's gotta be like a Hulk or an Orca or some n00b in a shiny not even 3 months old who bought a PLEX.

Sad thing is I MISS ransoming people. I had one guy off a gate a couple weeks ago cry out "how much!" to our gang but before we could stop firing he popped. Darn new T3' BC's and their Battleship sized guns...
