Is this still viable? Do people still mine from mission sites?

I don't mine very often. But some days when I am working from home I could semi afk mine while working. With all the ganking/canflipping etc it seems that this could be a way to do some semi afk mining in somewhat better safety.

I just have 2 toons that can fly retrievers, so jetcanning would be easiest.

The short answer is yes, mission mining is still viable. CCP recently pulled a lot of the upper tier ores out of high sec missions but it can still be done. Some denizens of the forums have expressed that they do enjoy scanning down mission ships and whatnot so you will still have to be kinda careful.

Level IV mining missions can be profitable, just not as profitable as normal mining.

If you have an orca pilot (hauling + boosting) and your miner has level V ice mining, gas mining, and all your general hulk/mining skills and you have mining connections trained to IV the payouts can be pretty good.

Basically you can complete 4 - 6 missions an hour (its all based on luck really, gas missions are fast, ice missions are slow). The payout is roughly 1m - 2m isk and 6k - 8k LP. The standing increases were normally pretty good too. From what I remember dual boxing L4 mining missions would equal out to about what you would average mining (not counting the standing gains obviously) if you have mining connections to IV. But this was prior to all the mineral prices going up.

What I did generally was have a Mackinaw fitted for the ice missions, a Hurricane fitted for the gas missions, and hulk (with strip miners) for the mining missions. Orca is setup for boosts and hauling (and mining drones, so it can help with the general mining missions). I would have all these ships in the system with the L4 missions so it was quick and painless to switch out (and L4 mining missions from my experience send you to a different system).

You could get away with doing mining missions during hulkageddon if you are in a pretty inactive system as long as you keep an eye on local/dscan (they will need to scan down the deadspace site you are in). I would suggest to use a covetor over a hulk just to be safe. And if you see anyone in system you might be worried about (or probes) just throw your ship into the orca (and switch to a non-indy ship) and logout.

Thanks for the detailed response. But I was meaning mining the asteroids in mission sites. Not mining missions.

Yea I figured I would still have to watch for combat scanners (hence semi AFK). but i figured it would at least shield me from the opportunistic can flipper types.

Not looking to make massive isk or anything. Just something to do on one monitor while I work on another. I can also semi afk mission, but that still takes more effort than semi afk mining.

The comment by Immortis Vexx pretty much echoes what I was going to say. The good stuff really hasn't been in mission sites for quite some time (in high sec), but you can still do it. I personally only mine in-missions on L4's that have higher-content Plag & Pyrox rocks in it. The standard stuff really isn't worth the effort, IMHO.

There are a few missions that still have pretty good rock groupings and amounts, but be aware that some missions have gate restrictions that make it a real pain to mine, be aware of how far the rocks are from the warp beacon, and if you can warp into second or third rooms.

I remember that there is one mission with Hedbergite and ha.. something, in it but its like 1 unite per rock and 50+km from the warp in.

Mission - Rogue Slave traders 2 has a nice mineable field at the warp in, everything is usually in range from the first warp in, the first part of that mission also has a big veld belt in it.

But its really all to taste, if youa re doing missions usually its fast enough that you dont want to slow down and mine them.

Oh and afk missioning is a lot easier (and cheaper losses) then afk mining.

Dual rep domi everything

Its not possible to please all the people all the time, but it sure as hell is possible to Displease all the people, most of the time.

Yes, you can do it, and it's quite profitable. You can even jetcan mine in relative safety! In fact, with most missions, you HAVE to jetcan, or you'll be spending less time mining than moving between gates and beacons and roids.

However, this is hulkageddon. Put the range on D-scan to max, set up an overview for probes and ships, and hit the 'use overview settings' box. If you see combat probes, dock up. Right away.
