as has been pointed out before insurance does scale with the price of the minerals used to produce the ship you bought from market.

Mineral prices DO influence the insurance payout.

Unknown factors though are the rate with which these are updated and the scale of the much cheaper minerals in null keeping the payout below ship prices in empire.

If mineral prices dictated what the insurance payouts are, then is CCP to blame for inflation on the market?

A lot of theories, none of them make sense.

Drake = ~50m

Drake insurance payout (Plat) = 32m

So WTF is with the market, either CCP does this to make more money selling plexes, or Goonswarn controls the market too.


I am just using the drake as an example.

If you want to make this more realistic there needs to be an agent who investigates the wreckage and determines who was at fault, not just directly but things like did the victim take proper precautions to prevent it. Then there needs to be months of legal posturing between both insurance companies before a settlement that will likely disappoint the victim is paid out and then both parties insurance premiums quadruple for the next 7 years.

Change the insurance payout to an insurance charge...as when you blow up you pay the insurance company a little something extra for no real reason. And if your wallet goes negitive, you go GCC and get shot by CONCORD so you can't keep a character in the red (wallet balance) and exploit it. T2 have a 10x charge multiplier, faction have 20x charge multiplier, Battlecruiser have an 8x charge since they are so popular and just because they are so cheap already...frigs and destroyers get a 3 and 5x charge multiplier so you can't just throw them away. Only ship that is charge free is the rookie vessel and the cruiser class is the "standard" next to the "battleship premium" blob ship.

******* awesome idea isn't it? Twisted More ships blow up, more players suddenly becomming risk adverse as their wallet shrinks faster then expected, and the whole problem fixes itself by micro-transaction people buying PLEX from CCP direct.

Insurances are flawed in Eve. Remove them asap!

Odyssey: Repacking in POS hangars for modules +1,  but please for other stuff too, especially containers. Make containers openable in POS hangars.

I totally agree. I can build a drake for 43 million with perfect skills. So you pay 10 million to get 32 million back, build another drake for 43 million.

In the end your out about 20 million isk. It doesn't even cover the modules. I think the payouts should be based on mineral prices at the time you lose your ship. Maybe limit the number of ships or how often you could insure. Why not just be given another ship ie. Redeem?

Personally I think CCP is running an insurance scam. :)

What insurance should really do, is base the payout on how often you lose ships, which means most folks couldn't buy insurance for less than it would cost to buy the replacement ship outright.

Given that insurance pays out more than it recieves, we're running insurance fraud, actually.

Because insurance payouts are an isk faucet and there is already too much easy isk entering the economy. Yes new players have a hard time understanding that ship destruction actually adds isk to the economy, but it does.


I think what he's saying which is the same thing others have said over and over is that the sink is unrealistic. If it was a faucet you would be making money - which everyone knows there is no danger of happening.
