Unfortunately for you the Eve app I am developing atm WILL be using Bluetooth :P IT will be an interesting app, not just your bog standard char viewer :P If HTC won't play ball with the bluetooth stack, it won't be supported because HTC BT just doesn't usually work, and hasnt since day 1. Maybe they fixed it, I dono, I dont buy HTC no more because of it.

I'd go straight with WIFI if it allows for it. Havnt touched BlueTooth in years myself; and havn't run into anyone else lately that still uses it. And its not just the HTC BT stack that's rubbish.

Have fun connecting your iGlases and Wristwatch and Headset to WifiDirect :) That is what I am developing, Augmented interfaces to devices that are hooked up to bluetooth atm, want Health devices? They use HDP profiles on BT, not Wifi, want A/D input devices? All RFCOMM on BT2.0, not Wifi direct.

Oh and HTC is NOTORIOUS for having a broken Bluetooth stack. Google it and you will see developers fighting dying bluetooth socket connections due to faulty pairing and the connect call failing.

YOU maybe going straight to Wifi, but no device I have ever programmed, is on Wifi and won't be in the near future. You think Serial comms has died long ago? Think again. What do you think RFCOMM is? Its serial, and its WIDELY used industry wide, for a single reason, RELIABILITY pretty much for any external wireless device connection to mobile devices. That is reality, not your fantasy. You think we use TCPIP for talking to devices? LOL, we use 10 bit ascii, thats a start bit, 8 data bits and 1 stop bit. That's how devices talk.

I don't know about the HTC. but the samsung default keyboard is pretty crap. I use swiftkey X. there's a trial version of it and I don't see any real difference, but I spent the 2 dollars to get the pro version.

shazam is handy. I've only used it twice in the few weeks that I've had it installed, but it's a good thing to have around.

since some of the books that I read come in various text formats that the default book reader can't read, I've got an app called cool reader. works really well. it will remember where you were in your book, and it treats it like a book and resizes the text to fit your screen as a page. it's a hell of a lot easier to use than a regular text editor.

another one I've got it called barcode scanner. simple name, but it's pretty good at what it needs to do. it will read barcodes and QR codes, then it will let you interact with them depending on what they are. such as recognizing a serial number and letting you save it or open a search of that code. or if it's a link to a website it will let you save it as a book mark, copy it to your clip board, or open it in your browser of choice.

I use opera mobile. it's not as user friendly, but it's more effective with encrypted pages such as the eve forums. there's also opera mini which is more user friendly, but a little more bloated and is not as good with encryption. I use opera variants since I use opera on my home computer so I can share the speed dial, bookmarks, saved passwords, things like that between the 2. if you're not so much up for opera, I hear dolphin is quite a good browser for mobile phones in that it's incredibly light. but also from what I hear, opera mini/mobile are the best mobile browsers out there right now.

for me it's not much of a deal since I've got a 6GB plan and I'm almost always near a wifi that I can use. but one program that's very nice is called 3G watchdog. it will keep track of your data usage and warn you when you are getting near you limit.

anti virus. you need one! I'm using eset, but that's because my dad got a bulk pack to cut down the individual cost and he had a couple spare licenses. AVG has a good name here, and it's free. this one is really up to you. but make sure you get one that's reputable.

other apps that I have installed (I've only had my phone for a little over 2 weeks now) are angry birds space, accuweather, cleverbot, flashlight, kitchen timer, skype, towerdefense, and as of reading this thread, aura.

EDIT: oh, damn, I missed the last line you had there and thought you were talking about regular apps we use.

Who's the guy changing the thread topic into fanatical smarm?

Mate, nobody cares what obscure code you use in any handset running any OS. Unless you're specifically making Eve software on a handset and are elaborating on it, make your own thread. I came in here to see if there was an alternative to Aura yet, not hearing fabulist stories about how you shun wifi and other mainstream technologies like some kind of hipster programmer that thinks it's not cool enough.

Nobody cares how a TCP stack differs to BT or anything else. As you'd clearly know, TCP (for the vast majority) does everything required in relation to communications. Unless you have a specific reason why TCP can't do the job, all this use of BT and other halfstream technologies is just chest beating.

I also like how (as you've illustrated) you have an issue with a certain handset (HTC) so you shun it forever, to the point where you don't even know if it's been fixed in the mean time. All in the meantime (probably years later) you tout your tech skills and lever them against something you've lost all knowledge about.

So, what did TCP do to you to get your knickers in such a knot?

"Have fun connecting your iGlases and Wristwatch and Headset to WifiDirect :) That is what I am developing" Grats, none of us use that crap so GTFO.

In relevance to the topic, I use Aura, and am interested to see if anything else out there can compete at the current time.

Not at all, we have used a variety of those specific vendor devices and every one of them had problems and reliability is important. Some things in life just have to work, Eve isn't one of them I know you are right.

I simply asked if the HTC One X had the issues as I have not got a HTC One X yet as they where not available from our supplier at that time. I certinally have not lost all knowledge about it, I right now have BT working on many devices, just not HTC for the very reason that is stated. It is in all of their phones using 2.x and 3.x, I just asked if his 4.0 had the same problems.

Patterns are the same, the only variation is their Vendor customisations. How is "losing knowledge" of a "vendor" equal to losing tech skills? Interacting with BT or anything is using the same patterns regardless. vendor customisations to the specific SoC hardware and also stack/drivers are causing the instability. Go google it, it is not just me, just google "HTC Bluetooth problems connection" and you will probably get a few hits. IT is not an end user problem, it is a developer problem with regard to HTC, as a user you won't see much of the problems we do, well you will, but not as bad, usually the paring witll just fail, and won't connect without you having to restart the bluetooth functionality or reboot the device.

Nothing at all; I don't make the devices, we just have to use what they use and they don't use Wifi atm and probably won't. All those hands free, all bluetooth, if you want a hands free interface, you are using bluetooth too, why? Because THEY DO. THEY being the manufacturers. I didn't know you had you own manufacturing company that did Wifi direct devices, can you send me a brochour of them? Thanks.

I didn't know you spoke for everybody.

No Google iGlasses or Valve Wearables or droid SmartWatches for you then, btw that is the future and why Google and Valve are pumping millions into it. Then again that is also why you are not pumping millions into it, because you are not interested in it, then again, that is why they are rich and you and I are not and also why I am going to adopt them on day 1 with features for them in my app. But don't worry, I can blacklist your character name in the app just incase you accidently download it and try to use it :)

U MAD? Please reply; I love to argue for fun. Please?
PS: I also love getting attention.
PS2: Thanks for helping detail this thread :)

TLDR the first part. I don't need to read your explanation and play of words for what you said earlier, which was "HTC BT just doesn't usually work, and hasnt since day 1. Maybe they fixed it, I dono, I dont buy HTC no more because of it." - You can play straw man with someone else kiddo.

I don't use hands-free technology, oh, take a guess why? How do you think I developed a hate for Bluetooth? Cause and effect. The rest of your smarmy post about me owning a wifi device company, I don't even... just I... erm... No.

I don't think you read my post correctly. I don't like or use Bluetooth. If that means I can't wear these products which I strap to my head and probably get a headache from, big deal. 3D was supposed to be the future too mate, clearly this isn't the case anymore. In fact, much of the promised investment into said technology has been cancelled. You'll blacklist my name? This forum alt you're investing so much time into? Congratulations, you are awesome and everything.

I don't speak for everybody. But still, none of us use that crap.

Finally, I like how you puke up a wall of text than throw the most immature U MAD at the end. No I'm not mad mate, are you highly sensitive of what people say on the internet? No father in your home? Clearly, you don't know what mad is, buddy. Stick to the topic without changing the subject/changing your words/saying U MAD/proclaiming how much you enjoy arguing. We don't need running commentary on how terrible you are, it's obvious, and was obvious from the 2nd post you put in this thread. Nurse your bruised, inflated chest.

LOL WORDZ BRUZ U JELLIEZ?
PS: I'm really shaken by this conversation so I've come back to make a PS.
PSS: Damn I can't concentrate on work, so I've come back again to re-read my awesomeness and it's feracity.
PSSS: Something about being the centre of attention, come at me bro, I like arguing, etc.
PSSSS: :):):):):)
