Kill rights clarification

Am getting mixed information concerning kill rights.

In a situation where someone has kill rights on me, if I manage to successfully defend and kill him, will the kill right timer reset to 1 month everytime he dies ?

It won't reset.
It will remain as it is until the guy actually kills you.
The only way to reset it would be to illegally kill him again without any retaliation -- the same way you got killrights against you in the first place.
