The strongest, the fiercest, but the fastest? EVE Racing.

Fellow Capsuleers,

A long time ago in ages past, there were a group of pilots who wished to pit themselves against each other to see who was the best. This was no alliance tournament, or ship brawl, nor was it war or espionage. These pilots had one aim, to go faster than all other opponents.

Ships were fitted for speed, not tank, or damage. Setups were discussed and secretly developed that gave maximum velocity with maximum stamina in order to last the many laps of specially designed tracks. Seasons were born where teams of pilots went against each other to score points, chasing a dream of a trophy and prize money.

Wagers were made on the victors and spectators came along to watch their favourite racer, heroes were made and villains distained.

But those times have past and heroes faded.

Until now.

I invite you all to attend the new New Eden Racing event, billions will be up for grabs for the winners and highlights will be shown on EVETV during the alliance tournament. An event thread is in the in-game event section for pilots to show their intentions to compete.

I would like to start a discussion on the concept of racing in EVE, can it be fun? Will people want to watch? Can racing become a sport that could rival the alliance tourney?

I'm interested in your thoughts on the concept of EVE racing.

Thank you.

What system will this be held in and when? I need to get the gankers in position to kill these defenseless pimped out speedy ships with lots of Lokis, Rapiers, and Hyenas.

Race courses could be laid out that would have timing gates - pilots would need to navigate through the gates as they go around the course. Best time wins. Allow players to place bets as well on the racers. There is any number of ways players could participate.

+1 I'd love to see racing in this game.

I always wanted to give the old racing league a try, but never could because of when the events were held. If I remember correctly, they were on Saturday afternoons (server time). If there were some events during evenings U.S. time, I'd join. I already have a racing Rifter fit and ready to go.

I'm considering holding races for EU and US time zones so as many people can have a go as possible.

Sign me up! I raced in the old league and it was very fun. The courses were tough to follow though weaving in and out of secure cans but we work with what we got I guess

There will be turns on the track so it's not all about speed there will also be several laps to make sure that it's not a sprint.

Rings to fly through might work better. Before they would just be in a row and we had to go around them, need marshals to make sure everyone goes through the gates.

To allow the bookmarking of optimal warp-in points.

I like it.

If you mean ganking ok...

If you refer to troubles with another racing league this is sub warp racing.

I would recommend a Vigil over the Rifter. At least for T1 non-faction frigates.

If you can't or don't want to fly Minmatar and depending on what ship types will be allowed you could also try:

Amarr - Executioner
Gallente - Atron
Caldari - Condor

Don't anger the forum gods.

If this ends up happening I'd be happy to team up with someone in order to gank some expensive stuff. One person could alpha the pimped faction frig while the other person alphas the snaked pod.

Could call it snakagedden.

In fact the possibilities of ganks may show for some interesting fits!

Like the tuskan raiders taking pot shots at pod racers! (Sorry for terrible film reference!)

This sounds great even though i want to insult you.

So ive come to the conclusion that i play this game to be miserable.

I hope that it goes really well and forget the epeen idiots saying that they are going to gank you.

Love to see a 25k m/s ship trying to be ganked by a passing thrasher.
I dont normally troll, but when i do i do it on General Discussion.

Are these going to be stock events or free style races? Stock being only tech 1 frigates, navy slicers, or whatever cruiser for that week's event etc. It seems like that would emphasize the skill of the participants in fitting and handling their ships. How was it done before?

Anyhow, I love the idea of seeing a mass event organized, which people come to consider weekly or nightly content just like pvp or trading. It would be even better though if CCP supported stuff like this by putting items like "racing rings" into the game for players to drop.
