Stuck in all-caps

I run EVE "fullscreen", but Wine is in a window that's a bit smaller than my desktop. Sometimes I pan away to other things. (Yes, when I'm mining, I will also sometimes cruise the web. At least I'm not a bot! And, there's always my spreadsheets for industry, and PyFa.)

Sometimes, when I come back, I'm stuck in all caps. It's not the system; I'm just fine elsewhere. Indeed, right now, as I type this, clearly I'm capable of typing lowercase letters... but not in Eve. Eve is stuck in all caps, so everything I say is shouted. The only way to fix this is to quit and restart.

Has anybody else figured out a workaround that doesn't require restarting?

I have tried playing various games such as moving to another virtual desktop and getting another window focused, holding down shift, coming back to EVE, and releasing shift (just in case it was the "shift release" even that was missed by Wine). Likewise with caps lock, etc. I haven't had any success with any of these.

The same thing happens to me when I'm switching from client to client. Nothing other than restarting fixes it. My corp finds it amusing.

Former forum cheerleader CCP, now just a grumpy small portion of the community.

I get the same thing every once in a while, but I multi-box. I'm not sure what causes it either.

Yeah it seems to start after too much alt-tabbing, but I thought it was synergy related for so long I havent spent time figuring out what the real cause is. I see the Linux channel folks running it to it all the time though, and its quite amusing.

It might be worth tracking down exactly what is causing this.

It can be the just stuck key status. Just tap all Shift, Ctrl and Alt keys and it will get unstuck. This happens because of keyboard focus changes and probably because Wine does not refresh these keystates when losing/gaining focus.

The same thing occurs for some other X applications, not just wine based ones.

I've only seen this with EVE on Wine (which is about the only thing I regularly do on Wine, mind), and I've not seen it with other X apps. And, it happens pretty often with EVE on Wine. So, it's not a generic X thing.

Also, I have tried the tapping of keys, to no avail.

Try to hold Shift wile being stuck in caps, maybe? Usually, this will let you type lowercase letters when you're caps-locked.

It was still caps when I tried that.

I have a fruit cup and I'm not afraid to use it.

Same problem here - only in Eve, only a restart fixes it.

Not a major issue, but can be A BIT ANNOYING.

I HAVE NOTICED THAT EVE IN GENERAL LOSES TRACK OF MODIFIER KEY CHANGES WHEN SWITCHING WINDOWS.

Oh, wait...

I have had the same thing occur with alt and ctrl leading to some awkward in-space hijinks. Shift is the only one that seems to require restarting the client, though.

I changed the "Look At" keyboard shortcut from the ALT key to the L key because I would always be looking at the wrong object after alt-tabbing.

Please support: export of settings in editable format

I have the problem of the alt key "stuck" after alt-tabbing.

But it's nowhere near as serious as the ALL CAPS PROBLEM. It's just a matter of tapping once the alt key to "release" it, while the perma-caps can't be corrected unless by client restart.

I don't have this issue with wine 1.5.4 (latest git) and sisi version of eve. it was fixed just recently though.
