A certain someone, that shall go unnamed, has been banned for a month. This toon had a similar signature as myself and had a name that possessed the initials EP such as myself... and TBH he was a good friend of mine. It would appear that he has been banned for the first time in his EVE career for typing the words…

Personal Attack, Reason; The guy is an idiot to be frank.

Now, I do understand that EVE is changing a great deal these days. But it seems to me that a phrase like that blends in with the rest of the **** slinging that is seen on these forums on a daily basis. A month ban for that? Both he and I feel that is a tad extreme. I am not sure exactly what happened, or if insulting a member of goon(dot) was the deciding factor… but… it is damn peculiar.

He has also received no information per EVE mail explaining his month long ban, which is equally strange. Both he and I doubt that a petition will yield anything. At any rate, watch out… because anything that you say can be misconstrued as a personal attack these days by CCP, especially if you are speaking to a member of goon(dot) at the time. For all you know you are speaking to a real dev right?

From now on include the words (speaking in game) in order to avoid repercussions such as this, especially when addressing members of goon(dot)

You have been warned.

Is it bad that I knew exactly who that was directed to as soon as I read it?

Personal attacks is not some new forum rule, it has been around for a while and more than likely this wasn't his first offense and he may not have been warned for the others.

Never warned, not once (as far as I know)
And yes, he was speaking to a goon(dot) do you think that played a role? Because my friend does.

First off, I had to take out the masses of pointless space in your post, thanks for that. Secondly if your friend got a one month ban it is highly unlikely that this was his first offence.

I know this because I had a post of mine removed from a thread only a few days ago and received an email notification explaining (though rather poorly) the reason for its removal. If all your friend can think of to put in a response is that someone is an idiot, then he should do as I've done and learn to word it better, and include something that is at least relevant to the thread in which it is posted.

NEVER WARNED VIA EVE MAIL

That is part of the reason why I am making this thread (on both his and all of your behalf) the rules may be changing. A one month ban without prior warning, for saying someone is an idiot TBH. That is all.

maybe there's lots of secret banning going on? 'Idiot" is a pretty commonly used word on these forums apparently.

Corp status has nothing to do with it, just ask Surfin. Poor guy. Just gotta watch your words on these forums, especially as we have a lot of people who try to goad you into typing something like the above and then they'll report you first chance they get. It's a game to them.

I received a forum ban back on the rift forums for something similar but my personal attack was in the form of a signature. One user for some reason had a picture of his face in both his sig and his avatar and it really bugged a lot of people for some weird reason. A bunch of us started stealing/copying it along with a few others for humorous effect and I got the prize for combining 6 sigs into one, then we all got banned for a week. Sad

Ok then (capslock engaged for reply)
WILL GET WARNED BY EMAIL, ELECTRONIC MAIL, NOT EVE MAIL.

There was that clear enough? Learn to read for Christ sake. CCP will always communicate bans via out of game methods.

I doubt it can possibly be for calling someone an idiot. I do that often enough, I call them as I see them and often enough it is true. Calling someone an idiot isn't even a personal attack. You have to threaten with physical harm or show a form of malice for it to be considered an attack. I get called an idiot often enough, as well as an *******, *****, ****** and a whole slew of other expletives on this forum on a regular basis. Ive never seen those people get banned for it. He should petition to find out why.

Also...I could be wrong with this but I am pretty sure a ban on the forums does not equal a ban from the game. If it does then that is pretty screwed up but he should still be able to play. If I were to get a ban from the forums I would simply take a break or just spend the month reading the crap that spews from the forums instead of responding to it.

Bounties for all! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2279821#post2279821

I recall an instance on an other gaming forum where someone received a temp ban for a personal attack by saying nasty things about George Bush. I got a perma ban from the same site because they didn't like my ideas on interpretive art. Smile

Yeeee!

The email will always arrive within 24 hours of the ban or warning being issued, and yes I am speaking from personal experience having been both warned and banned on occasion.

If your "friend" says he has never been warned before then I call bullcrap. Everyone who has used these forums for more than a few months knows how it works. Tell your "friend" to check his email again later.
