1. Use my well documented, well fitted and brilliantly cheap merlin.
2. If you know how to fly it you won't die.
3. I haven't tried on TQ, but pre-escelation on Sisi we only needed one hack to complete the site if we were quick about it.

I like the helios for hacking.

you either go 1 mwd and 4 codebreakers. Landing just after the fleet has aggro and burn tot he tower to hack.

Or you go 5 codebreakers and enter the site while they are completing the previous. As they are wrapping up a site, you are burning your alt cloaked up (cov ops cloak being faster than normal ones) to the tower to orbit on 4.5km (this will get you within hack distance without decloaking you)

When your fleet lands in pocket and starts to clear the site you decloak your alt and in 1-2 cycles at most the tower is hacked.

You then warp your alt to the next OTA.

You can even use this alt as a scout to make sure that it isn't already occupied

However

I can't think of any good reason as to why the tower should be so far away... It would help if the tower was close enough for an active fleet member to be able to hack it without being removed from the main fleet, or being an alt character.

It doesn't matter because it's stupid to move them closer since using an in-fleet hacker to move 60 clicks and then risk having all the Sansha go fight him 60 km off the main fleet will lower the DPS potential of the fleet significantly.
Of course battleships can still hit them, but it remains a bigger pain in the ass than simply having a speedy frigate hack the site within 20 seconds of entering it with the fleet.

Unless you expect CCP to put the hacking can right on warp in? I'd like to see that happen Big smile

Maybe put the hacking can right in front of the station, so the fleet can move forward together and hit it. Since this will also move the mainstay of the fleet closer to the spawn areas for the NPC's
