So I'm looking at the new modules due to be released with the expansion, and I'm thinking that perhaps it'll be time to retire the my Passive Rattler for a while. Sure, the semi-afk nature of the boat is great, but the reality is most Lvl 4s have triggers, which require you to be partially involved anyway - and if you're partially involved, you may as well be fully involved if it will speed up mission times.

I figure that the Drone damage modules, coupled with the CPU rig (and its -shield recharge drawback), is kind of telling me that active tanking will be the way to go. Using this loadout as a baseline, http://eve.battleclinic.com/loadout/58060-Rattlesnake-L4-Torp-Active-Tank.html, the main problem encountered is lack of CPU for better TPs, CN BCUs... you get the idea.

So I'm hoping that once the expansion comes out, something like this will be more viable.

[Rattlesnake, Rattlesnake L4 - Torp - Active Tank]
Capacitor Flux Coil II
Capacitor Flux Coil II
Caldari Navy Ballistic Control Systen
Caldari Navy Ballistic Control System
Extrinsic Drone Damage Shiznits II

Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
Gist A-Type X-Large Shield Booster
Gist C-Type Kinetic Deflection Field
Republic Fleet Target Painter

Federation Navy Omnidirectional Tracking Link

Torpedo Launcher II, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Torpedo
Torpedo Launcher II, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Torpedo
Torpedo Launcher II, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Torpedo
Torpedo Launcher II, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Torpedo
Drone Link Augmentor II
Drone Link Augmentor II

Large CPU Rig shiznits
Large Sentry Damage Augmentor I
Large Hydraulic Bay Thrusters I

Garde II x5
Warden II x5
Hobs x5
Hammers x5

So a couple of questions
1) Are those rigs going to fit? Does the CPU rig as it exists on Sisi take up 50 calibration points?
2) Would it be worthwhile changing up the lows? Are the Flux Coils necessary, would moar DPS be better?
3) Is trying to buff the crap out of torp AND drone damage a bad idea in general? Should I focus on one or the other?

Looking forward to feedback/trolls/where do you mission Smile

edit: oh and for clarification, this will only be used for shorter ranged missions- swapping to Raven/CNR for long range stuff.

Coincidentally, I tried my rattler for the first time the other day fit similarly as you have. The biggest problem is the crap range on the torps. This will be especially problematic without a prop mod. Effectively, your fit will be limited to drone damage only, and thus will be slow as molasses going uphill on a cold winter day in Siberia at night.

It was so frustrating to watch that I went back to station and swapped back to my X-large booster cruise Raven.

I would suggest swapping to cruise missiles. This will give you the range you need. This will also free up some fitting resources. You could then probably pull one target painter. Now you could probably fit a MWD. No one likes slow-boating 50km to the next accel gate.

fake Edit: aw, you edited while I was typing. tl;dr: mixing long range (sentries) with short range (torps) weapons is generally not a good idea.

I'd say try out the fueled booster on one but they suck right now

That's a Templar, an Amarr fighter used by carriers.

True... though I was thinking that with Gardes and the omnis and the hydraulic bay thruster rig for the torps, a high damage 40km engagement range wouldn't be an unreasonable expectation. Sure the other sentries can hit out to 100km (I use wardens often too) - but for that purpose I'd pull out the CNR.

If you care about mission times doing it in a Rattler is fail, stick to your CNRs, it will beat this Rattler in mission time in 90% of missions, and you can torp fit it for really close range missions if you want like Damsel.
