I dont want the minny ship as its just too fugly and I dont want to have to micromanage drones on the gallente proteus, but out of the 2 strat cruisers which would you go with for PVE at first, eventually as I get into the game again PVP... trying to set a goal now and work toward it then once I reach it branch out again....

I see lots and lots of love and hate for Tengu so was thinking to go for it but as I dont have experience with anything beyond drake and myrmidon as my biggest ships on a char I last played like 4 years ago I just dont know.

Proteus is debatable, because the drones were useful just annoying on missions to have to keep recalling them every time a new wave of enemies would warp in and even still you would end up losing or having to repair them a lot since the heavy drones moved so slow getting back.

for PVE, tengu.
for PVP, proteus or loki.
stay clear of a legion unless it's for incursions.

There is no Bob.

If you are doing Sansha and Blood missions the Legion is fine.

Of course, if your missile skills are better than your laser skills (and shield better than armor) then obviously still go for the Tengu.

The Tengu is far superior to the Legion for PVE, as long as you go for Kin weak rats. Serpentis, Guristas, and Angels are have their weakness to Kin.

Tengu has a 100 km range with heavy missiles and do more dps than the legion ever will (nearly 900 dps at all ranges vs ~800 at 10 km, dps drops like a rock after that)

The Tengu with 100mn is a better PVP than any of the legion's configurations. The Legion can do 100mn with HAM, but its slow and has short range and less dps than Tengu with kinetic.

The legion doesn't really do anything well compared to other T3's.

If you want to use something like the legion get an Absolution, it costs only as much as a base hull legion. It is half the cost of a whole legion with subs. It has much more DPS, equal or better tank, and has drones to fend itself against frigates which the legion has no defence to. Sure the legion has more range, but you'll be fighting at warp disruptor range (24km), that extra range won't mean much to you for legion.

The only thing the legion is good at is looking pretty and perhaps being a big expensive half a billion bait/tanky ship.

When I flew a Legion it just was too underpowered for me. Tengu ran circles around it in PVE. Tengu ftw, Loki for projectile rats. Legion and Proteus just don't cut it in my opinion.

tengu is better than "on fire inside your own ship by NPC rats with TD"

all ready bought the Tengu and the named fittings and such for it for pve... I am just waiting for the training to complete now to be able to fly it (bought it while I have the cash now instead of waiting and ending up spending the money and not being able to afford it when its time or deciding to change paths or something)

Tengu. The answer is almost always Tengu.

Here is the ranking in my humble opinion:

Tengu: Excels at PvE, from C1-3, DED complexes and mission running. There is no boat that does it better. The inherent drawback is missile travel-time, which plagues all missile boats.

Loki: Great versatility brings the ability to contribute in all facets of the game. Probably the best PvP T3 in the game due to speed and webbing bonuses. Contributes well as a pro-web-boat in incursions. The ability to shield or armor tank equally well is a MAJOR plus, making the Loki a good choice for any fleet operations. Has fairly shoddy DPS potential and the short range of AC's means a lot of travel time between rats.

Proteus: Incredibly high DPS potential at short range (perhaps the best). Good mix of speed and utility. Second best PvP T3. Downside is range. You DO NOT want to rail fit it, meaning that your drones will be most of your deeps until you can close. You're also hamstrung into armor tanking.

Legion: Great deeps vs. EM/Therm-weak rats. Excellent choice for incursions. The downsides are many. ABYSMAL DPS vs. anything that isn't EM or therm weak. Fairly poor speed potential. Almost no utility. All in all, the Legion is simply a poor design with a very niche role. Unless you're in an incursion corp, you'll end up benching your Legion for many other hulls.
