So am I actually selling to other players?

Hello,

When I right click on an item and then click sell, did I notice that the price varries greatly, sometimes is it sold way above market price and sometimes at not even half of it. I wonder if the prices NPC's pay for items are simply random or whatever I'm actually selling to players(I noticed the ability to place buy orders like in a stock market).

If the later then might I have made some people a lot of cash by selling at half market price, If they can resell it at least :)

Only a few itemsare traded by NPCs (skillbooks etc.), almost all items purchased or sold on the market are traded by other players. Basicaly all the t1 t2 and t3 items are mined manufactured and distributed by other players

as all ready stated above most items are made sold and bought by players. usually easy to find npc buy and sell orders as they stay quite stable price wise.

Sorry but file “forumsig.GIF” is currently unavailable please come back later…… like in a year or so.

look at the time left on the market, all NPC prices have 300+ days on the time left section, the max a player order can have is 90 days...
very very few items are bought by NPC's and few are sold by NPCs.

This Link will help.

Herping yourDerp is correct about the max time period for active orders. The time limit on the order is a good way to tell if it's placed by NPC or Player.

Good luck and welcome to Eve.

One more advice if you selling goods, try and find your best buyer in the region ,but be warned check the info of where it is being bought , low sec pirates would love to see you trying to sell your items in their low sec systems

So don't be lazy and check where you can get the best price in selling or buying goods and make the effort flying those few jumps , it can safe you alot of iskies

I do not agree with what you are saying , but i will defend to the death your right to say it...... Voltaire

a side note
when an item is sold the lowest price item is removed from the market, so when you buy that super expensive version of the produce the person with the lowest price gets the isk and his product is sold.

So if you notice a spick in your wallet that is more than you were selling it for, that guy tried to pay a scammers price, But you got the reward.

Someday I will have the time to play. For now it is mining afk in High sec. In Cheap ships

As far as I know NPC don't BUY stuff from you, only players place buy orders.

NPC do SELL stuff (usually stable priced, 360+ day sell order) which include untrainded BPOs & skillbooks.

Many items in "Trade Goods" category are bought by NPCs, for example all Overseer's Personal Effects.

Yes, some items are bought by NPCs. Some items you find in NPC wrecks can be sold to authorities as Malaire rightfully points out.

But the really cool thing about the EVE market is that ALMOST everything on it is sold and bought by real players. Similarly, most of the things being bought and sold are built by other players from materials harvested by players.

There are over 1 million transactions on the market every day on average (don't recall the exact number but I think it's close to 1.3-1.4 million). And the market broker system is very cleverly designed to match the best offer with the best price on the market. It's deliberately set up not to allow players to buy from select players. You can select the price you are happy with, but not the seller/buyer. It really makes for a lively market which really displays the laws of supply and demand in action :).

There are other ways to do direct business with select parties, such as contracts and direct trade...but be careful of those unless you know the person because that's where people will typically try to scam.

Just in case this wasn't a joke: a dev is about the only person you can be sure isn't scamming you.

Thanks all for your input. Now when the price of an item is better do I either place a sell order just below the market price(which get often bought) or when all my sell orders are in use do I reproces the item and sell the minerals instantly(who seem to have stable and fair prices).

I tend to sit on items and wait till the price increases if after a month nothing changes much I look at reprocessing them and selling the minerals.

When I do sell items though I usualy go for a price just below the average I like quick sales. I also buy items and always place a buy order a few ISK above the highest buyer to make sure I get the items.

I am not a serious trader but some players can make alot of money by playing the markets.

A good rule of thumb is to look at the price of the item you're thinking of selling. If the price is under 900 - 1000 ISK, it's usually better to reprocess it, because you'll generally get a better price for the minerals than you would for the actual item.

For items over 1000 ISK, the sale price of the minerals is usually less than the item wil return on the market, so in that case, it's a better idea to sell it.

I used 20k ISK as my limit, i.e. reprocess anything which sells for less than 20k ISK per item. I checked several items around 10k-20k and they usually gave me more when reprocessed, but then I do have quite high reprocessing skills.

Just remember opportunity costs. Saving 20k, or getting 20k more doesn't make sense, when you have to go 10 jumps out of your way. You can make more just by selling at the lower price then doing something else.

Once you've been playing a while, you can get a really skewed view of ISK. 100,000 isk isn't much, when you're throwing it at people (in the form of things that go boom Big smile

Or when you are quite literally throwing it at people, in my case.

(There are some confused newbies flying in space right now, I bet, with no idea why some random maniac just gave them ISK out of the blue...)
