The Glory of Mining, Why are Miners Misunderstood?

My name is Steel Wraith and I am a miner.

But I'd never mine if I meant to give Eve my full attention. In that case I would actually play Eve. Mining isk/hour is low, it's true, but mining isk/attention-hour is huge.

Pffft in this world there's two kinds of people. Those with guns and those who dig.

You dig.

At least they took out the ability for guns to dig.

Now someone has to dig, if you want any guns. :)

In the cat-and-mouse game that is low sec, there is no shame in learning to be a better mouse.

Sorry for being pedantic but if you’re gonna quite films, quote ‘em right.

“You see, in this world there's two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig.”

What I don't get is why nobody seems to see the calm serenity of mining as a relaxing thing to do. I work all day in a chaotic environment. I get home to the chaos of my family life. After I finally get the last kid down to bed, walk the dog, and review the day with my wife, it's really nice to sit down with a beer and just mine for an hour or two to unwind from all that stuff.

Doesn't anybody else do this? Mining is perfect for this sort of thing.

You have really nailed it man, mining is just the thing to zone out after a hard days work while enjoying the awesome Eve Space graphix and contemplating the meaning of the Universe and everything in it.

Gankers do try mining, you'll probably enjoy the relaxation of it, and you won't be so.................. angry in RL and angry in Eve.

Fighting a losing battle there, Peter. People who want to hate/blow up miners will hate/blow up miners no matter what.

Yeah I cant understand that actually, 4000 dead hulks and mineral prices dropping? Thats really something, could it be the hoarders filling the gaps Question

Its as if the Hulk pilots are also industrialists and there's nobody left interested in buying minerals.

I started playing EVE as a miner, got into a hulk, had an orca alt, got perfect refining skills and all that. It was great, when I was unemployed.

Then I got full time work, and found that my free time just became a heck of a lot more valuable to me and spending my time at home dragging and dropping ore from cargo to cargo was the most mind numbing thing, for such a pitiful amount of ISK.

That said, if I really want to chill and relax, I grab a book and read for a bit. And no, I really would not find it worth interrupting my reading every few minutes for chump change.

Pardon me, but exactly what is so glorious about ugly ships shooting lasers at ugly rocks for hours upon end?

Watch_ Fred Fred Frederation_ and stop cryptozoologist! Fight against the brutal genocide of fictional creatures across New Eden! Is that a metaphor? Probably not, but the fru-fru- people will sure love it!

Well it keeps your analytical brain working as your creative brain does other things Cool

Sure mining as a primary activity isn't all that exciting, but mining as a "background" activity is.......fun ....in a "background fun" kinda way Bear

That's the only way I would ever imagine mining to be bearable to anyone that isn't insane or mentally handicapped, if your doing something else while you mine. However it defeats the whole point of playing the game. Think of it this way, people don't go buy a movie ticket and let the movie run while they do other errands. The point of a game is to actually play it, and a profession based entirely on making a few mouse clicks every 10 to 20 minutes without any real strategy to it is hardly playing the game, and quite frankly hardly fair. Even mission running, possibly the second easiest profession in EVE requires 100 times more things to deal with than mining. Even fitting is different. A mission fitting needs to be able to apply DPS and tank DPS with multiple sub categories such as cap stability depending on what else you put on your ship. A mining fit only needs mining tools, everything else is purely optional.

Mining needs a complete overhaul, it needs to be more intuitive and not mindless.

You have to cater for those who do not want to sit GLUED in front of a monitor for hours on end doing pvp/missioning; some people , like myself, simply do not have time to give undivided attention for hours to a video game.
I mean I have done that in the past, and FOR ME, its one of the most unsatisfying/unproductive ways to spend your day Roll

As someone who has mined before, Glory and Mining shouldn't be used in the same sentence, unless glory is preceded by "Lack of". Building things is necessary, but blowing them up will always be more fun.
