Yes, that's terrible that a company would release a game with bugs!

Pretty hard these days to quash all bugs especially in larger scale games. Like I said it's a beta. It would be like complaining about bugs on SISI.

Now once it's released...by all means rant and rave away. my only real grip is that I cant map buttons to the mouse keys yet. As for the origin thing it's only a broad statement in their legal clause. (Steam has a near identical one) doesnt mean they will, and I stuck it on a separate HDD, and sandboxed it.

Google facebook, and everyone else under the sun is data mining your crap or saving it permanently in a cloud somewhere. Compared to that this doesnt seem a whole lot different considering how personal e-mail can get. And there are measures to negate it.

I will say I was surprised by how much more tactical and difficult it was than previous BF games.

As long as Origin keeps my info within their own company it doesn't bother me so much

Well Origin doesn't just spy on you, EA will also sell the info it collects about active programs, programs that you uninstall and so on to 3rd parties for marketing.

RPS Article

Awesome program, people are having to pay for a beta, apparently Origin sucks balls and randomly refuses to install games that you buy, the customer service sucks balls when you are trying to fix the above problem and it spies on all your info so EA can sell it on.

Ok I'm a bit conflicted on the subject of pre-ordering BF3.

On one hand the game looks utterly and completely awesome.
Looks great, had enough fun with BF:BC2 to think they can pull it off.

On the other hand there's Origin.
Potential spy ware which you have to waive your right to trial by jury to use.
I am not exaggerating on the second part.

Thoughts?

1) Dont pirate stuff.

2) Enjoy.

If it was just the legal statement I'd use origin.
But the fact is somebody actually checked what Origin was accessing after installation.
Here is what Origin scans.
Steam only scans the stuff it installed, and the legalise states that.
Origin is legal terms allow it to scan your whole computer.
And it actually snoops around your program data file and looks up other stuff.

I won't have EA digging through my computer like they own it, and I especially won't pay them for the pleasure.

Note that Origin doesn't seem to touch browser stuff...
Oh wait, EA wants you to install a browser plugin in order to run.....

Actually a lot of programs that scan install folders and secondary folders in which cache files are installed. Or secondary data. (Which you can set) that's used to link certain information together. EG: Web data (browser) and game data. It's used more or less for convenience thing so users dont have to look up folders or dont know where the hell they are located. Truth be told tons of programs scan your registry (It is a database after all.)

In origins case I assume they have all now origin other related data defaulted to program data. Thus the scan. I dunno why they chose to do that instead of the steam way of scanning only steam directories and sub directories, but they did.

But like anything electronic related dont like it dont buy it. I for one wont own a kindle because they seem to have root access 100% of the time for it, and have taken books off of it without consent.

I do not like the idea that if we mod BF3 they shut down the origin account effectively nullifying games we already own. There is a 128 man hack for servers which require some client tweeking to function.

I'm going to skip BF3 over this Origin stuff.

The real point for me is not what it scans, but how they don't tell you. By not telling you and forcing articles and topics like this to speculate, the real concern for me is that whatever we see it doing NOW doesn't have to be permanent. They could at any time send this thing new directions without telling the user it's happening.

Usually I'm on the other side of these things. Advertising or information use to increase profits is really just another kind of price hike. No different then launching a full price game with additional DLC that costs more money but was produced during that same development time as the box you paid full price for. No different then releasing with a crappy map count and then selling map packs.

However, if they're not going to come out and state EXACTLY SPECIFICALLY what the program is for, I'm not letting them do anything they want on my PC and change it on the fly, and that's the line I draw. It's not just a price hike anymore, it's getting shady.

While the game itself runs great on my system, origin is deal breaker for me. It really does blow donkey ****.

Stupid little jion game button and keeps putting the game into windowed mode (sometimes different sozed windows FFS). Being unable to get to the game optiosn till your actually in a match? That also blows the big one.

Honestly I really hate the way the Video game industry has been overrun by greedy assholes like kotic.

Had it not been for free modding and open source games like Counterstrike and LoL would not have existed. Stacraft and Warcraft would not be anywhere near as popular as they were, not to mention Battlefield 1942. Instead what we get are these intrusive DRM applications and Console based modding policies where we have to pay for maps and **** like that. I can understand selling map packs on consoles but its really insulting for PC players since the platform is more than capable to support modding and custom map editors.

Theres a reason as to why I barely pay for games anymore and that's because of **** like this Origin stuff we have now. And don't you dare say piracy is the reason for this crap. It's not.

EVE online is the fishermans friend of MMO's. If it's too hard you are too weak.

Lol what? You do know BF started on PC and is tailored to PC first? You know how big BF2 was/is? 12 Million in the beta atm. Also a month old build apparently...

^^
So you dont see the correlation of rise in of DRM following rise in PC games piracy?

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-09-30-how-bad-is-pc-piracy-really-article?page=3 interesting article for a few reasons. (One of them the diverging thoughts on whether downloads really corresponds to decline in sales.)

What... you have to BUY the beta???

I loved 1942 and BF 2... but thought 2142 was the biggest pile of steaming horse **** i had ever seen served up as a game. Jesus it was ****.

And now EA want to SELL betas for a game that will spy on you? Give me a break.

And CCP Horse, EVE Online by comparison is perfect. Only 1 bug that i have ever seen and thats the warp tunnel. Everything else works great.

EA is ****.

Don't purchase any game that hasn't been out for 6 months.

No one releases quality products that are finished anymore, everything is rushed and released horribly broken now a days. I haven't seen anything released in the last 5 years that is any good that isn't horribly, horribly broken for the first 6 months.

Quality in the gaming industry has gone down the toilet over the last 5+ years...it's more about making $$ than releasing quality products now.
