I have a dell insperon 620 and I don't even know what I'm doing.

I've looked on the motherboard and not sure where I would connect the power pin thing for the videocard, so could you guys help me out?

It might work. But don't be surprised if it does not.

Dell website says 300 watt power supply for mini tower, 250 watt for slim tower. That is too little for that card. One recommendation I see, is to use 560 watt power supply.

the power supply is going to be the key this .

first what kind of case is this ? mini tower or desktop ?

will a new power supply fit in this case ? if it is one of the odd ball mini atx power supply then most likely not.

if the power supply is a atx power supply then you might be able to fit a 400 - 500 watt power supply in it.

after that is tackled you will have to measure and make sure the video card will fit in the case as some cases and there dimensions do not allow for certain lengths of video cards.

but the first task is to find out if a larger power supply will work in your case . because with out the new power supply you will not have the required connector to plug in your card.

if your lucky though your power supply may have two strands of molyex connectors(power for the hard drives) for hard drives ( 2 separate strands) and you can try and adapter that combines those 2 power sources and feeds the graphic card .

if your lucky. but your really need a more powerful power supply

Okay.

I have the desktop

http://www.amazon.com/Dell-i620-1298BK-Inspiron-Desktop/dp/B006WYVGC4

it has an i5 sandy bridge
1TB drive
and 6GB of ram.

The PSU is 300 watts (i looked at it today)
and this is the type of PSU http://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Dell-Inspiron-Systems-Compatible/dp/B005OBOB1O

so, will this fit?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182200#top

and is this a good card?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-ZOTAC-nVidia-GeForce-GTX560-2GB-DDR5-2DVI-HDMI-PCI-E-Video-Card-ZT-50709-10M-/160727290993?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash=item256c17d471

I have 2 spaces open for it, I just have to move the wi-fi card and the hdmi capture card over and it would fit.

the power supply may or may not fit due to how dell lays out the back panel hole for the power supply . im trying to find pictures to see if your going to need a dremel or a more appropiate power supply .. we tried doing what you doing a couple years ago on a similar dell . we had to dremel the back plate a bit to get the power supply to mount right.

The Power Supply

Power supply dimensions

new egg under the detail tab.

5.91" x 3.39" x 5.51"

according to amazon

5 7/8 W x 3 3/8 H x 5.5 D

this would indicate it would be a good fit . and looking at the pics as long as they are representative of the actual machine. the power supply should not be a problem you may need to mount it upside down . and this may make things a bit tight but hopefully you should be good . on the fitting front

the power supply appears to have 2 PCI-Express Connector according to the details this is good cause you will need them.

the video card

new egg under the detail tab.

9.3" x 4.38"

The Case

according to amazon

21.9 x 14.9 x 19.2 inches

so im hoping this will be large enough i have no real way of knowing so we are just crossing our fingers here . the numbers could lead you to assume their will be more than enough . but with proprietary machines you never know how they utilized the inside of a case .

the card appears to be a good it has positive reviews .

the only concern i have is that those 500's get quite hot at times and if your case is not in a well ventilated area you may occur overheating issues.

but every thing looks good barring any unforeseen gotchas .

Since you are going to get a new power supply. I suggest you not buy 550 ti. 550 ti is ok card, but gtx 460 will beat it and use less power, and cost about the same these days.
