EvE Online, The Antisocial MMO

Aside from the random crap the OP spewed I have to agree that eve is a pretty anti-social in nature. The only activity that really takes more then one person after you wrack up some SP is missions, WH space, large plex sites, and of course 0.0 pvp. Most of the time when I am on (this is my alt btw, main is in apoc-legion) I am solo unless in a fleet.

Eve needs larger venues like incursions that force players to work together. It really is not a socially engaging game other then relaxing in corp/alliance TS.

Edit for a typo.

Go take hold of a system in 0.0 and keep it defended solo.

It seems to me you dont get what the nature of eve is.

Eve pve should be improved, nobodies argue; eve however is pvp at its soul.

Sorry I should have elaborated a bit more. For the front line soldier that is the PvP I speak of.

It's Eve Online, love or hate it hey it's your 15 bucks. You are free to spend it elsewhere.

I'll admit I havent been playing Eve the last few days... I... um... bought MineCraft and holy deepfried jack russel terrier in a sesame seed bun with all the trimmings, it's addictive!

Oh and edit: I've renamed the Creepers as Goons so at least it's Eve-like with the threat of getting attacked while mining, right, right!? Arrow

No, not a hauler with 2 plexs in it.

I was talking about someone loosing a 500mil fitted hulk and 800mil worth of implants (about 2 plexes worth) in a 1.0 system. Not because the belt was dangerous, but because there are throw-away alts in fully re-imbursed destroyers gaming the clone system, with a guaranteed 10 mil profit if they kill the hulk, even if they get zero loot.

10 whole mil.

I would sure like to make 10 mil for 10 minutes of work, it sure beats running missions for 1 mil isk each. But unlike a lot of the people on EvE and in the real world, I don't feel that easy money should come at the expense of others. I guess actually having a sense of ethics puts me at a disadvantage here.

Which isn't to say I'm opposed to fighting people, just do it the right way. There is a huge difference between challenging someone to a pistol dual (war dec), and shooting someone in the back of the head with a sniper rifle (suicide gank)

your current situation is based off your own actions. I recommend joining a corp that has been around for a while and knows what they are doing. Check their KB stats. sounds to me you have chosen to be a flying target and you don't like that.

I'm beginning to think that maybe I don't really understand the nature of eve, like you say.

unfortunately that would also mean that the person who got me into eve (who has been playing 2006 and has been showing me how to play) doesn't really understand the game either. He has been able to play solo for years and make more than enough isk to buy a plex each month and play for free. It's only in the last few months that solo play has gotten harder.

So the answer is "yes I am basing my opinion on what others say and have no experience of it myself."

Please link me to somewhere in the Wiki where what you've mentioned is said.

Plus, you still don't get it. It's only dangerous if you don't know what you're doing and you don't get help

No, this is absolutely wrong.

a) Solo players have always been the small rodent getting tossed around by cats
b) It hasn't gotten any harder

Oh you're really a newb.

Dont worry then.

I had to play for a year before "getting" what eve is about.

As i said you can play how you want, if that's the way he wanted to play and he has been doing it for 6 years then that's eve for him.
But it seems you're not like him, you want to learn more and whine and have your opinion heard, that's not bad, just accept what we're telling you and try to look at things under this light.

Try to join a corp, you can choose between low sec pirates or fw, null sec npc space or sov, wormhole dwellers and mercenary corps.

And once you've joined get the cheapest ship you can fly, get on comms and go blow some **** up (you probably will die so remember your clone).

If, after having tried this, you still have problems then eve is not for you.

I swear, I read this same thread last year..

anyway.... lets clear up a few things.

~ Your name is schlong; you're in a Corp and presumably not an alt, and your name is schlong. That doesn't speak well for you. If you were an obvious alt troll, things would be different. I'm not sure what it says about you in this case.

~ You started this thread on a flawed premise. You went in with a number of very obvious assumptions, and proceeded to make yourself look like a tool by stating them as unrefutable facts.

You'll notice my initial response reflected that. I generally give people some room when they post about difficulties adapting to EVE, but in your case I just went 'whatever'. In your response posts I didn't see much if any change to this attitude and I still haven't; you appear very narrow minded and have an atypical troll-like disposition.

~ Goons are an Alliance. They take pride in being infamous and posting on the forums in a sometimes trollish fashion, but generally only if it suits them or the poster they are responding to appears to be a bit clueless. Actually, they are some of the most informed and reasonable people in the game that post here.

~ You clearly don't understand the game and make some clear misconceptions to how things work. If you are indeed new, then a certain amount of that is acceptable and even understandable, but it doesn't mean you should just ignore other players advice or people correcting your misconceptions. If you do that, you lose all credibility whatsoever and with that the tolerance of players such as myself. I'm stretching my tolerance out here; you actually moved past it on your first post.

The game is what it is. Don't expect it to change and learn to adapt to it, and adapt to it again when changes are made somewhere that affects you. Every player has to at some point. This is not half a dozen games I don't care to mention or play.

~ Own up. Admit you made a mistake and actually invest the time to find out where. EVE is not what you seem to think it is or say it is and neither are the majority of the player base you see here on the forums. You subscribe to absolute tripe the likes of which some other players have posted here who offer similar observations to yourself without really caring that they are incorrect or skewed to a perspective that EVE should be a particular way.

~ Not everybody who posts against your ideas is entirely right. Some have biases towards a particular play style and others just do it to get on your nerves. Mostly though, they are trying to get you to see that attacking game mechancis or the 'sandbox' is only going to ruin the game. EVE is about adaption, not making the game adapt to your playstyle, and not about making every other player adapt to those core mechancis changes for your sake alone.

~ There is a middle ground. EVE is actually close to it already, though slightly skewed in the favor of the gankers. You can still work around that. Most of it is just poor mechancis and balance issues. Those are being changed as we speak and we've yet to see where it will go. It will be either better or worse, and that will depend on exactly which part of it you are looking at.

~ No game with a PvP element that is multiplayer and not 'just a First Person Shooter' is going to have a perfect balance between industry and PvP and all the activites in between.

If I could change my name I would. It was the name I picked for the trial account, and I figured it didn't matter that much so I just kept going with the same character. And the corp I'm in is only 2 people, because it means 0% taxes

The more I read from people who disagree me (once they got past the "i can has ur stuff?" stage) the more I realize I was wrong about what eve is.

My choices now are to either try to play it the way everyone else plays and just accept the PvP part, or leave and find a different game. I still have 3 weeks left on this month, so I'm joining a larger corp that has a WH base and I'm going to see where that leads.

I am a 0.0 player who has been playing for almost 5 years.
I am not a goon.
I carebear in 0.0 frequently.
I almost quit in 2011 with the supposed transition to space barbies.
I love the reinvigorated hard nosed space is harsh attitude that CCP are fostering.

There you go OP I am the complete contradiction of your opinions, except I am not opinion I am a reality.

Well in the end you came out as a reasonable person.

I'd say be careful with wh, it's pretty hard to adjust to that type of playstyle (at least it was for me).
I think it's much easier to live in 0.0 (just my opinion though).

About the forums, you'll soon realize that if you ignore the 2 or 3 trolls it's quite a funny place to roam. And if you leave GD, you may even find useful informations.

My in-game experience has been quite different. I've mostly found friendly and helpful blokes, even the ones whith whom I fought.

Keep your hulk MOVING
Fit a Damage Control II
Fit Shield Extender Rigs
Fit a buffer-tank.

There you go.. no 7 million ship can kill you.
You will be needing quite a few 115 million ships to actually get you now.

Do not be an idiot and play solo in a paper-tanked ship.
Besides, look at the damn ORE price. Your time behind the buttons in your Hulk is earning you 250% more than last year.
And that 800million implant of 'your friend', well, I bet he payed less than 50 for it.

I used to mine in a Probe with Dual Diode Lasers ... 88 m3 every minute.
That is how I mined for isk for my first ships. You see, I could not build them myself, because the BPO's where 30 mill or so, and my corp back in the days spent over 2 months mining to get a print, the awesome BELICOSE... *now I feel like crying*

then someone emptied the corp hangars, and we had to start all over...
