Pod warped out before I could kill it... There a trick to that?

Few minutes ago I decided to learn to pvp, so I built a cheap rifter and headed to lowsec. Kept trying to scan people down, but that failed, and I started hitting the smaller gates, hoping that the mass of people at the main gate had put out scouts and I coulds pick one off.

Plan worked, found a stabber fleet issue, of all things, locking me and closing fast. I manually piloted, successfully avoiding most of the fire like the guys in the videos, closed the distance, locked him down and slowly let my t1 150mm autocannons skin him alive.

So I get a faction ship dead, and enough faction ammo to buy two of my cheap little rifters, but the guys pod warps off before I can even target it. Was I just unlucky this time or am I doing something wrong?

Pods can warp damn near instantly. Nothing short of a Interceptor or a remote sensor boosted tackler will catch a pilots pod who knows not to stick around after his ship is blown up. Sometimes you get lucky though and they stick around or their EVE client lags out and you can snag the pod.

Nice job on your first kill man. PVP is the best part about EVE. Nothing else beats it as far as fun-factor goes.

Your first kill was solo'ing a SFI in a Rifter. Shocked

You'll go far, man.

Also, Daemon says true facts. When losing your ship, if you select any celestial and mash the warp button, you will almost always escape. Sensor boosted interceptors and bubbles are your only real big fear.

Thank you, was more of a rush than I expected. I just thought I had screwed it up at the end and wouldn't get credit. Think I'm addicted now though.

spam, plus low sec is laggy as **** and modula lag will screw you if they spam.

Though I have manage to pop more than a few pods after my mac alpha'ed them. That is more to shock of being alpha'ed though, no spam time before the one ungrouped gun pops them.

Don't ask about Italics, just tilt your head.

With Meta 0 guns, reportedly. Shocked indeed.

Once I hit hull, I start looking for a cozy celestial for my pod. Nothing too close that might have badguys, but nothing so far away as to be out of D-scan range potentially holding a nasty surprise. Then, I spamclick warp, and don't stop until I hear the oh-so-sensuous "Warp Drive, Active". Then I take a deep breath, and start the safe-hopping.

Post that mail dude, killing an SFI (Basically designed to **** frigates) with a meta 0 fit rfiter is amazing. Some would say too good to be true Blink

Just go to battleclinic, or your corp KB or whatever, hit post mail, and then paste the contents of the combat log (Under combat logs on your character screen, kills sectionCool)

That's what I was looking for. A lot of what I know about this game was poorly explained to me by friends who had to swap time zones on me, so I had thought I had to score a pod kill and the killmail happened automatically.

Plenty of combat guides, and scanning guides, but still some features that have me scratching my head. Regardless, thank you for making the grin on my face a little bigger. Big smile

Def not a bad first kill tho TBH, it was the SFI pilot's idiocy.
Going GCC in a buffer cruiser, faction or not, on a gate in LS is always going to end the same way.

Happens all the time man. What you wanna do is click your guns with your mouse so the targeting crosshairs show up, then hover that where his capsule will appear on your overview. When the capsule shows up on the overview click it- you'll target and as soon as you lock your guns will cycle. Hope you got sig analysis 5.

Thought it had more to do with his choice of a sensor booster over a web. Once I shut down his MWD he was only able to hit me once, when my frantic manual piloting brought me like 7k out. I think he was supposed to lock people down while the rest of his corp at the other gate flew in to help, and they assumed he did not need it until to late. His kill ratio looks legit, gonna assume he isn't an idiot.

Congrats on your first kill, OP.

But let's be real, peeps...the gate guns did about 90% of the total damage.

Speaking of pods, think we can get CCP to remove medical insurance, institute skillpoint loss when your ship blows up (for any hull, not just T3), and it takes 30 seconds to get your pod into warp because after being jettisoned in an emergancy the on-board systems need to boot up resulting in more skillpoint loss when it goes pop. **** yeah, this would be awesome! since I am starting to belive too many people do not know what real soul crushing loss is and like to subject it to other people but that feeling of medical clone protecting precious skillpoints is acting to much of a crutch in preventing that significant feeling of loss for everybody. Get rid of all responsiblity of protecting yourself and just go full out risk Twisted forget the immortal part capsuleers are supposed to be.

Still counts, though! Cool
With over 2000 points of damage it´s not as if OP just let off a single shot to whor himself a kill.

Besides, it´s more the guts to go up against Stabber than the actual kill, that counts, imo. Be honest, would YOU have gone up against him in that situation? I certainly wouldn´t.

You're an idiot. Just try outdamaging gate guns in anything other than a blaster boat.
10% damage is decent for a t1 frigate especially when the pilot is low on skillpoints.
Give credit where it's due.
Nice first kill! Those pvp videos seem to be working :)

Tip- Overview lags behind grid. If you hover over hostile ship's icon until pod appears, and click, same effect as your method without the lag and an increased podding chance.

Well done!

As far as pods go you will need upwards of 1400 scan res to typically have a chance to catch them. And that's only if the pod pilot gets lag when his ship goes pop. That being said I have see folks get podded by a 200 scan res BC so...

If you rely on the other guy being an idiot to get kills, you'll probably still get about 3/4 of the kills you look for.

Then, when I was most PvP active I ran an SB mostly, so I'd usually look for an idiot before I uncloaked in the first place.

No doubt it counts. It's in the books. But we don't know exactly how it went down and having the gate guns do that portion of the damage has to be considered.

Oh, and no...I wouldn't have either.
