Forget the machines of the heathens, fly Amarr, and burn the heretics with the cleansing light of lasers.

If you're a real man who will fight against odds until the bitter end, go Gallente. If you're a little girl who runs away from a fight at the first sign of trouble, go Minmatar.

For a new player focusing on PvP, go Minmatar first, for basically the same reason I advise going Amarr first if you want to use turrets in PvE. Easier to apply your damage at various ranges, easier to refit your ships another way if what you're doing isn't working.

Eventually, when you know what you're doing, you may find that Gallente works better for what you want to do (either mid-range brawling with drones under heavy tank and rails or running up and punching people in the face with blasters). You'll still be able to do those things with Minmatar, just not quite as well, and if you prefer the less-restrictive orbital/sweeping style you may want to stick with 'em forever, who knows.

(Honestly the Amarr "whatever, fly as you want, I'm still going to fry your ass with this laser while reclining on my space couch drinking a space beer" style has been growing on me lately, personally.)

I'll just quote The Joker here.

"Do you want to know why I use a knife? Guns are too quick. You can't savor all the... little emotions. In... you see, in their last moments, people show you who they really are. So in a way, I know your friends better than you ever did. Would you like to know which of them were cowards?"

Destroyed much?

Minmatar is the smart choice, Gallente is the fun choice (that is if you like blasters and drones a lot).

Also minmatar and amarr BC's don't require noxcium to build so they are super cheap to make compared to gallente and caldari ...

Gallente get decent once you have good skills (both SP and experience) as you have to catch people with your blasters, and if you do you'll normally melt before you melt.

Winmatar on the other hand is better when you have low sp and experience as you can GTFO, capless weapons, insane fitting, tracking, good dps/range, option to brawl/kite, speed etc I'd list it all but you get the idea.

and with similar skills a Winmatar ship will always come out on top (or escape) and since Eve is all about risk aversion, Winmatar is the way to go.

It's been a long time since I last played, but back then there was a saying.

"Flying Minmatar is like shooting an uzi while riding an office chair down a flight of stairs."

Looks like things have changed since then.

There are lots of ships in each race that are totally viable and good in PVP.

I am just going to put this out here: the "M" in "FOTM" is "month."

It is not "FOTM" when its been this way for over 3 years.

Funnily enough, on Tranquility you will see ships from all races happily clashing together and making fiery explosions.

People got a bit obsessed with minmatar.

Gallente have a lot of good options - all of their frigates pretty much, the talos, arazu/lachesis and proteus are the best of the bunch.

Eve seems pretty well balanced race wise. You see all kinds of ships and gangs flying around.

Minmatar for frigates and destroyers
Gallente for cruisers
Caldari for battlecruisers
Amarr for battleships

That said, the Rupture is a great PVP cruiser, the Kestrel is a great PVP frigate, the Hurricane is a great BC, and the Tempest is a great solo BS

On many ships, gallente doesn't seem to have enough powergrid while minmatar has too much.
