Posting on behalf of friend, he is trying to run eve on late 2008 macbook, running OS 10.5.8. But after installation cannot open the game, prompted by a message saying http://tinypic.com/r/1fztyh/7 . I realise that due to the update the minimum requirements shot up with the new "sims" added into the game, but is there no way he could run the game without that? I know you can de-select it in game but he cant even get that far. Any help would be great, if there is no solution that is rather dissapointing.

Shader model 3 is used for more than just the CQ. It's a requirement that your video card support it in order to run EVE.

It's possible that it is only the Mac drivers don't support it for his video card, that the video card does support it, and the windows drivers have the support for it.

Have him click apple in the top left, choose About This Mac, and since I haven't run Leopard since I first bought my MacBook, I don't recall the menu structure, but find the one that has Displays or Video, or something along those lines. Look for the video card model, model and Google it to see if, with Windows, you'll have SM3 support.

If it does support SM3 under Windows, create a Bootcamp partition, install Windows, install EVE, enjoy.
