So I tested some of these findings and found that 90% of the people I ice mine with are bots! Shocked

Simply locking on there ship will make them warp out... (interesting)

Interesting indeed Twisted

Not that it's going to save them against a ganker. A passive targeter is easily fitted.

I actually use passive targeters constantly. And I'm not sure if I just suck, or if I don't understand how to use them properly... but they fail around 50% of the time. I've tested them against my own alts, I'm not sure how to use them properly, lol

Don't lock anything. Click (left) on the module and click (left) on your target (overview or visu). Tada !

Took a short break from Eve, then returned and noticed a distinct drop in bot populations.
Haven't seen the 'Power of Two' bots OR that Ukrainian/Russian group where a large number of bots start with 'zero'. Four months of reports and petitions finally did something.

Guessing they got their 2-week ban. Will see how they behave when they return.

My guess, they will just keep running them and squeeze as much money from them until they are permabanned, as the chars can no longer be transferred and have little application beyond cheating.

Have them in my Addressbook and await their return....

[quote=Jita Bloodtear]So far we've ganked just shy of 300 ice exhumers in empire this month, and we've come here to share our findings. To simply put this... more than half the ice miners in empire are bots. What's more, they generally all use the same bot program which makes them easily identifiable.

The new program follows a few easily identifiable patterns

1.) The bots have set bookmarks in the ice belts, and they always warp out to the same position. Once they land they'll approach their bookmark and do mining. These bookmarks are always spread out to prevent smartbomb attacks

2.) The bots react to certain stimuli which seems to vary depending on some unknown condition. They will often instantly go to warp if you lock them, they'll go to warp is a pirate lands on grid with them, and they'll go to warp if piracy happens in the belt

3.) A bot who's ship has just been killed will usually warp out instantly, often by a disconnect. A bot who doesn't have a ship will sit in station, and undock every 70 seconds, see he's in a pod, and then redock after 15 seconds. This is in contrast to the last generation of bot software that would have their pods warp to their BMs in the belt and pretend to be mining.

4.) An undocking bot will redock asap if a low sec status character is on the undock point (see rule 2)

5.) The bot program has the ability to blacklist certain characters, and to always dock up when they're in local. Their behavior indicates they may even have a shared database that they all access for this information - or one person controls 50+ bots

6.) The bots seem to come in "generations" of when the characters were created in groups. Often varying by a day or so. These generations will very often have each bot in their own player corp named after that bot. These player corps are often stuffed up to 5 players using alts from the other 2 character slots from each mining account

7.) The bots typically have one of the two programmed mackinaw setups (for caldari systems)
http://gents.eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=12883041 (this one is very popular)
http://gents.eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=12882584 (this is the secondary setup)

8.) The bots will relocate to another ice system if camped into a station (rule 4 and 5)

9.) The bots will typically not have implants (due to constant pod turnover rate), but prefer to fit +1% ice implants if possible

10.) The bots quite often share the same naming convention for their ships (which is unlikely to be the bot program, but the botter's choice) where the ships are named after the pilot, but there are 3 spaces preceeding the name (i.e. "___Jita Bloodtear's Mackinaw" where underscores are spaces)

friendly advice to all you "bot gankers". Go blow up Kamio and Aakari in Caldari Space. There's a truckload of bots out there. they're always in the same damn location in the ice field and like you said, it falls on deaf ears. look for the "miller Hi Lite Family" while you're out there.

Alright, after sitting in Elonaya ice belt for a few weeks I feel like sharing as well. I have a simple way to tell if someone is a bot -

  • When you click on their ship, you can't see the security status.

  • They don't seem to mind approaching , bumping...

  • They reject private conversation invite in 5 seconds (ish) , although I'm not sure if that's rejecting or just general PM block that can be set somewhere in EVE's settings.

  • As it's been said by someone here, they warp out instantly if targeted - with one exception, that being when they warp to their bookmark in the belt and you target them, they won't warp out until they start mining. (a lot of people tries to warp out when targeted, but they respond to other things as well, heh)

  • The ones I know are all in a starter corporation with generic portrait

That about does it. And finally, here is a few names I believe to be bots:
Marimerabel
Phloran
ElmmaM
Bek Kan
Kiss M E
Keger Blak
XporterZzZ
Tussik
PrayerzZz
Tundus
Gur Stan
Bomja Ra
Serenity9
EventHorizon V
Jessica Glitter (not sure)

1. Get into ice belt
2. Get a bot that does nothing but lock people up
3. Fly a ship with excessive number of lock slots and sebos

Actually, the number of subscribers dropped from 370k in July 2011 to 340k in December 2011. That's a 8.1% drop.

If you read the botting forums, you'll get all sorts of opinions about why CCP is losing money by the actions CCP Sreegs and Team Security have already taken. And I can think up a bunch of ways that banning botters, especially the pro RMTers, is good for the CCP bottom line. Thanks for the idea for another blog post Big smile

i'm a bit skeptical, but looking at Ganker Bloodtear shows some dedication, not to mention being part of "Gentleman's Agreement" which has one of their members in the top slot for exhumer kills this hulkageddon.

ice mining is great for casual players because a hulk can go about 20-30min without any buttons pushed or things dragged. That's max cargo fitted, ofc. I wouldn't want to mine ice during hulkageddon though and i think this is why the prices have skyrocketed for isotopes - they're all past 1000

i tend to go with jester's trek suggestions on tanking, since i've been watching the leaderboards and eve-kill over the last week and haven't spotted a single decent tank..i'm especially shocked at orca kills not having damage controls on them FFS. The embarrassment over stupid ignorant carebears is countered by the absolute flood of misinformation coming from griefer trolls on these forums, especially this "HTFU" attitude when killboards show plain and clear the bottom feeders are going for easy kills with no thought to "gee, do i really need a brutix to kill an untanked mack?" (although, i do like trying out Tappad's fit out on my tanked barges on the test server.)

so yeah, bunch of lazy tards on both sides of the fence here. But, all in all morbidly fascinating. I'll not bother whining about how poorly miners get paid because it's not exactly taxing on the ol' grey cells...especially ice mining. great AFK work for high sec alts of null sec players.

went and tested this. wow, so that poster above was right: just activate module and click on an untargeted ship and voila! no sign on the targeted ship that it'd targeted - even after getting ship scanned and cargo scanned multiple times over minutes, well past the time the passive targeter module itself deactivated.

huh...i'd sworn ship/cargo scanners gave some audible noise detectable to others. total silence. Too bad the damn ship scanner fudges it's data.

So, I can update information about the April 11th, 2011 bot generation. They fled Caldari space after much persecution and settled over in a Gallente ice system]Angymonne. Tracking agents placed them here but it took me a few days to get around to following them. I arrived and this is what I found from those that were on my watchlist:

Local upon entering
http://dl.eve-files.com/media/1204/2012.04.07.01.29.52.jpg

Ten of the April 11th generation were here! So I immediately dispatched a freighter full of catalysts to head in this direction, and loudly boasted about it in local, and discussed the situation publicly with the natives. They knew full well how bad the situation was, and had praise for Buck Futz who had "pirated" there in the past week. Helping to clean up the mess.

After approximately 15 minutes of discussion, and hearing their tales of why they thought they were bots - and referencing them to this thread, to each rule I have in the first post, they agreed completely with the holy bot hunt cause.

BAM! The bot owner notices Jita Bloodtear in local.
http://dl.eve-files.com/media/1204/2012.04.07.01.45.11.jpg

Further discussion in local, we agreed that all these bots/characters were linked and were the same guy. This expands the list of bots in the April 11th generation substantially (as we expected it was huge to begin with).
When do you plan to do something about this CCP?

Those screens are epic, all disconnect at same time so clearly bots but maybe a disconect from a network error unless you replicated a few times. I also seen a nice battle report where a single cane blotted a fleet of AAA's Tengu's controlled by a badly scripted bot. I wonder what action CCP will take against that individual?

It isn't my analysis. It came from a site called MMOData.net. They get both the subscription numbers and the active account numbers from CCP. Those were the actual subscription numbers. The trial accounts fall under active accounts, not subscriptions.

Ya I haven't really been ganking at all recently. Hulkageddon is too maintstream. I ganked bots before it was cool, etc etc

I've been afk for 2.5 weeks, and then came back and had to kill everything in Cloud Ring. But that huge bot network I have watchlisted, I've only seen one of them sign on since I got back. They were probably temporarily banned, I expect them to be back soon though. I'd like to think we made some impact on the state of things though. Who knows. Our other ganking guys were Ganker Bloodtear, Viper Bloodtear, Reaper Bloodtear, and maybe Thug Bloodtear. But all their kills were back when I first made this post

heh...this ganking miners has always warmed the cockles of my heart (guess it's rivalry i suppose)...especially bots or stupid low sec miners going after crap ores with stupid fittings. i tend to warp scramble and lecture before killing them. poor dears i'm such an evil toad.

And this test server is super fun trying to kill my tanked barges. very upset about the new messages on singularity saying stuff like "your warp drive has been disabled because of [GCF]" and "nope, you can't eject cuz ur baaaad" - guess they coded some of that because of boomerang.

my impressions on ganking miners in high sec is
  1. ECM DRONES RULE. Also, it's a real ***** trying to gank my barge when it's got ECM drones launched. lol. Poor Tappad's catalyst didn't last long at all and i wasn't even using jester's recommended fit. Crunchmeister's Jamming Chance Calculator says 1 vespa vs 1 catalyst gives 13% chance. I don't really need to change Tappad's fit, to include eccm, since why? there's a shocking amount of untanked miners out there so why waste time on the smart ones...i do hope there's more smart miners out there...hulkageddon's stats are very depressing.
  2. i'm surprised not miners use ecm drones. they'd certainly be a sure sign for the lone ganker to pick an easier target. I've been using ecm drones for the longest time...started to wonder if they even gave killmails because jester recommended hammerheads just to get on killmails (focused fire off of course)...it's not like one needs to gank 0.7 rats. i'd figure combat drones on mackinaws are a sure sign the morons don't have a tank strong enough for mere rats.
  3. PULLING CONCORD WORKS - damn, i was doubting how easy it is to pull concord. i had just 1 BS and 2 cruisers spawn to kill my ganker at the ice belt...all i had to do was undock (in say a n00b ship) while still GCF'd to pull those same concord ships away from the belt. Went out to see if trying to gank my barge will spawn a second set of CONCORD...oh dear, looks like the police are shortstaffed because it's the same trio. hmph
  4. NADA ON INSURANCE - heck, didn't even get default insurance. lol.
  5. CONCORD AT LOCATION WILL ENGAGE ASAP - there goes the oft used troll that police bodyguards at belt won't engage and it takes a new spawn. haha. not.
  6. FAIL TO KILL A MINER? NO BIGGIE - so you forgot to scan and get blown up before the killing blow....no sweat! i've tried 3 times so far to kill a tanked barge and i've gone from +5 to +4.5. yeah. i'm real worried. 15 minutes later i'm raring to go again
  7. MID SLOTS - only reason i can see why Tappad fits a SEBO and Scram is for pre-aligned miners who watch local (or like this thread deals with, are macro botted)

Second trial (sans ec-600s) saw Tappad's usual fit get my pre-jester tanked ice barge (hulk) down to 30% shield before my ganker got CONCOR'DOKKEN'ED....my shield capacity (ship info) says just shy of 2000, with 76EM 82TH 76KI 82EX.
like. wtf? is it really that easy to tank against casual hulkageddon soloists when barges are dying in droves???? My urge to join in on the bloodbath is rising.

Right. time to try again. this time on an untanked hulk. muhahah...oh bugger, got my barge down to 30% and the police sitting next to me in the belt decided to drop their donuts and engage. boooo.

right. fourth time's the charm. gonna pull concord away from untanked barge. DAMN! 50% hull before i got ganked. damn damn...how the HELL does Tappad gank hulks solo?!?! hmmmm...maybe the test server's lag is too low and concord arrives much too quickly compared to tranquility? hmmmm...maybe i need implants dedicated to hybrid damage?
(edit: next morning - DOH! i totally forgot about overheating. haha...okay trying again)

hmph! even with overheating i barely get hulk with zero fittings down to 45% hull. i got six, almost seven shots off with void S charges at 1000m range ('keep at' option)...oh right i'd forgotten about launching that drone (not used to dessies with drone bays. lol. i'm such a n00bcake)...okay one more try, including DPS implants and drone.

okay, i'm at 4.1 security status before the 5th try. implants, overheating, drone, and pulled concord. *crosses fingers* kaboom! muhaha....errr...wtf? i only went to 3.4 security status? wow i could do this all day. hmmmm...5700 dmg inflicted. let's try that again using my covetor fit in a 0.8 system
[Covetor, poor mans tank]
3x Strip Miner I
Medium Azeotropic Ward Salubrity I
Damage Control II
Micro Auxiliary Power Core I
2x Medium Anti-Thermal Screen Reinforcer I
Medium Anti-Kinetic Screen Reinforcer I
5 x Vespa EC-600
listed in evehq as 45 isk worth.

holy KERRAP! concord showed up really fast. lol. ouch. 30% shields using Tappad's fit:
[Catalyst, Tappad's]
8x Light Neutron Blaster II (Void S) --- overheated
J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I
Prototype Sensor Booster
3x Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
2x Small Algid Hybrid Administrations Unit I
Small Ancillary Current Router I
1x Hobgoblin II -- remembered to launch it
listed in evehq as 15m isk worth

hmmmm...oh, i'm sure if someone was determined enough (or wasteful rich idiots in an alliance) i'd be easily ganked. But, from what i've seen it's usually solo gankers after poorly fit ships (and gangs would probably be able to find poorly fit orcas to gank...my god. no damage controls on them during hulkageddon? *shudder*)...besides, there's way too many stupid greedy mining bots out there poorly fit near market hubs.

okay, one more kick at the can. this time with 2 tappad's, and pulled concord...WOOO HOOOO!

Bloodtear, you are doing God's work.

Also to whoever said "wait till the prices go up" we really don't give a flying ****. Prices can go so high I have to pvp in Noob ships if that's what it takes to get rid of all the botters. I will gladly shoot away with my civilian railgun if I must.
