Hello all,

So I am wanting to get invention started up and was wondering if you guys knew any websites or had any links that could help me get started in the right direction to getting this started. I am currently trained in mining so hoping the skill weight in invention wont be as large. Thak you in advance.

www.google.com
try "eve invention"
i'd read most of them to see if you want to do it

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

A lot of the skills aren't really an issue. There are a handful of rank 1 skills that are good enough to train by themselves and are prerequisites for other skills such as Science, Mechanic, Electronics, Engineering. After those you just have to focus on the two required skills and the encryption type. I'd say with the base skills trained the specialty/encryption take maybe a week and half to get up to a decent level and then after that's it all volume and click click click.

I remember the first time I ran a couple invention jobs and I was so happy to see the Job Successful dialog and after so many now I just go "yeah, whatever".

Of course, if CCP Soundwave gets his way, you'll have to move out to low/null in order to do it.

^^^^^ yeah, perhaps not the best time to start aiming for invention. You may want to wait until after the upcoming patch a bit. See what happens to datacore market (big changes in this arena). CCP Soundwave wants to move T2 production toward low/null sec. Save your SP and ISK.

Don't really see that happening people will whine too much about having to move to low/null to do invention, and this is more of the hi sec carebear kind of thing. Though if they did I know I would happily train up invention just to try to fill my pockets with isk that others are too afraid to take the risk for.

I mean we got the whole suicide ganking ships nerfed with the whole no insurance payout, which I never thought would happen. Plus I think this would screw with our economy way too much with the t2 market we lose a lot of people doing invention, and it would just otherwise mess with how everything is being done now if you had to worry about pirates, etc at the whole low sec aspect of this. Too many people would not be prepared for it.

Welcome to Eve. Everyone here is an Evil Sick Sadistic Bastard who is out to get you. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either trying to scam you or use you.

You guys are so hard headed. It seems like he wants datacore production to be a main feature that faction warfare will do. This rewards people for doing faction warfare. Then they will sell the datacores to people who are doing production in high sec, because they will use the labs for research in high sec to pop out BPCs. They will then buy the Tech 2 components which are made out of moon goo from you guessed it 0.0 to have all three parts of space involved in invention.

Yeah some Google will help but effectively:

train the right science skills for what you want to invent
make copies of a bpo
invent from the BPCs
manufacture the resulting t2 BPC
sell
???
occasional profit

it;s a lot more complex than you having some mining skills as almost all of those will be useless you need an almost completely different set of skills, you also need lots of different BPCs, BPOs, maybe a POS, so not at all trying to put you off but it's def one of those things where spreadsheets help a lot :)

The eve wiki is the best source on info.

Ideally you should expect it to take several months to get into a good solid invention/manufacturing setup, both skill wise and inventory.

To get started the best approach IMO would be to pick up several BPO's you are interested in and start making copies, since copies will be your main bottle neck. Making copies only requires Science V for max copy time (so you should have this all ready) and as many lab slots as possible. So get yourself Advanced laboratory operations IV (9 research jobs at a time). Copies do not carryover the ME/PE research on a BPO so you can use non-researched BPO's.

While the copies are being made you can focus on the specific skills you will need to invent and manufacture the BPC's you'll be waiting to complete.

You will also want to look into R&D agents and get a few setup for the specific datacores you will be using for the T2 manufacturing.

those datacore accounts haven't really been profitable for a long time either. Specially now that PI is starting to level down in cost.
