Hello, I hate to ask the question that has undoubtedly been asked thousands of times but I need some advice..

I first tried EVE many years ago, and lost interest before I gave it a chance. Now about two years later I find I am extremely interested in EVE and I have a newly acquired love of astronomy, which goes hand in hand with this game. I started by joining E-UNI and attending a few classes, and stayed in there about a month before deciding I didn't want to follow all of their rules and things. I honestly feel lost now.. When I sit around and think about EVE and all of the exciting thing you can do in the game I want to rush back to my PC and hop on.. However when I do get online the first thing I do is walk around the Captain's Quarters for about 15 minutes before logging off. All I have been doing is getting on and training skills for things I THINK I might like..

I honestly can't find a purpose in this game, I feel like I would enjoy PVP in nullsec or lowsec fun..but what Corporation is going to want someone that can't even fit a ship properly? I mean I just recently spent 3 days training to fly a Thorax and now I'm like..well now what?

Anyways, if any advice can be given please do so. Also I'd be interested in hearing your story of how you decided what you wanted to do in the game.

Thanks!

Post reserved, will update tomorrow about all my choices etc. (1am here, need to go to bed)

In the meanwhile:

http://swiftandbitter.com/eve/wtd/

Take a look at that website, gives you an overview on what EVE has to offer (or at least the things that are currently mapped as what EVE has to offer, you can always start doing your own thing).

Also, have you done all the tutorials (AURA and 5 career agents), they might give you a slight nudge in the direction you want to go.

As for your lack of ability to fit your Thorax out, that is a newbie thing. Every new player starts out with the lack on how to fit ships, you will learn how to fit stuff eventually, being it from help from others or just trial and error.

Best thing I can advice is find a corporations you like to join (aka not just jump into the fist corp you encounter). Best if this corporation does what you like to do, and also is willing to help you out doing it as you are a new player to EVE.

Also, which skills you should train. Go to the character sheet => Certificates and then take a look at the Core and Defense Certs. you can never go wrong by training those skills as they will benefit ALL ships in EVE.

The one main thing that you want to do is join a corporation. EvE is a social game and to get the most out of it, this is a must for new players.

You will be surprised how many noob-friendly corporations there are out there and are willing to take new players on and help them out with the aspects of the game you appear to be struggling with. You can visit the recruitment channel in the game or check out the forum section on recruitment. Find a corporation that accepts new players and also seems to do the kind of stuff you are interested in (PvP by the sound of it) and off you go.

Good luck.

It can be very confusing as which career to choose.
That is one of the reasons many people's (original) main's started off as Jack of All.

My personal point of vieuw in this is to look at first where your intrests lie.
They can be toally independant from eachother in matter of skills required.
Best is to make a list of things you want to do. Then look which thing on the list has your top priority and start from there.
Once you identified where your primary passion lies you can start focussing on what it entrails to follow that line.

Many people hated the learning skills in the passt. However they gave you some sense of time to start getting your passion and skills in one line.
Now from day one you start training the skills required for your path, however knowing the options and subsequentially the required skills etc takes more then the first time logging in.
It might actually take a few days or even weeks before you sorted it out.
Hell, some people took even months or years to sort it out.

Bottomline is that you have to find a sort of self discipline to identify your own path, then you start to gather information as how best to follow that path and learn by trail and error.

As for joining a Corporation.

Don't be in a rush to join the very first one that sounds like everything is peachy.
Even as a new player you are allowed to be critical.
Ask them if you are allowed to hang out with them in their public channel.
Get to know some of their pilots by actual interaction.
That way the list of corporations you join over time won't start looking like a phonebook.

There will be recruiters in the future who will ask you a damn lot as of why or even ignore you completely if you look like a passionate corphopper.

I am a total PvP-noob but I found this guide: http://mirren.freeforums.org/i-want-to-pvp-but-i-don-t-know-where-to-start-t9.html
It works as mental support for me now when I am trying to get the hang of low-sec and PvP. :)

Join a low-sec-corp. It's way easier with friends than being an alone noob.
And pick your corp carefully, there are a lot of bad ones out there.

If they have a public chat channel, hang out there for a week or two and just talk to the ppl in the corp, just to get a feeling about it.
If they are nice and you feel that you actually learn something (since you are pretty new), see if they are willing to take you in.

step 1) find a good corp
step 2) join it
step 3) stay in it as long as it suits yo

that's pretty much it. A good corp in eve will lead you into all the fun things you want to do.
there are corps out there who'll accept new players, hell, my view is "as long as you can fly a tackle rifter(1 day of skilling) you can fly with us"

If you're EU based and want to blow stuff up in low\null, shoot me an eve mail

Do what you like to do. Find a corp which will need someone with that skills. Have fun.

I'm sorry but I can't help you if you don't know what to do, since in EVE you can do everything.

For example we have one guy in our corp who loves xploring. He only does that, and he's good with it. He can't fight, he can't mine, he can't produce, but thanks to him, we can make wormhole raids, grav mining and sleeper hunting. And he gets his share like any other.

Most of the days when I get online the first thing I do is to check corp locations to see his new findings.

So yeah, even if you don't like to fight/mine/trade which are the main activities in EVE, you can have fun.

Seriously - you need a corp.
Go to the recruitment forum and either post or look up the posts in there.

No one will show you what to do - you need to find it yourself.
If you want to pvp in low sec, look for a corp that does that. If you want to pvp in null look for a corp that does that.

You bring up a very good point. Take a look at the alliance and corporation recruitment forum.
The biggest thing people dont mention is why corps are important.

They can give you a lot of direction.

Right now lets say you cant join a null sec alliance. However on there recruitment post they might say:

*Must be able to fly a Battlecruiser
*Must be able to use tech II guns
*Must be able to anchor bubbles
*Must be able to use scan probes.

Now you have a training program. Now you know what to train for. Dont get to wrapped up in the potential of what you could do. You have to be the joker and just "do" things. Must of the stuff you want to train for will need isk to buy the skill book and then isk for the module/ship itself, so for starters either come up with away that makes you isk that you enjoy or just something profitable that doesn't take alot of work like trading.

Also alot of null sec alliances have an empire based training corp for new people like you: For instance Itrepid Crossing has progenitor corp, who you can fly with untill you meet there requirements. Then you get on the bus to head out to cobalt edge.

If you can fly a tech II frigate like an interceptor or a stealth bomber you can even join our trainer corp NA. and learn how to pvp the way we do. We spend an awful lot of time in null sec even though we are never permanent residents.

Noir. and Noir Academy are recruiting apply at www.noirmercs.com I Noir Academy: 60 days old must be able to fly at least one tech II frigate. I Noir. Recruits: 4:1 k/d ratio and can fly tech II cruisers.

Actually, step 1 is "disable the captain's quarters". If you are walking around with pants and **** instead of floating in a goo-filled pod (or waking up in a medical bay) then you're playing the game wrong.

The "Join a corp" thing is good advice, and you should do that. But finding a corp that, most importantly, has people that log on at the same time you do can take several tries and a couple weeks, so you need something to do in the meantime. I would advise flying around in space as much as possible as a relatively new player, so missions are a good way to burn your spare time and work out the basics of fitting the hard way.

Additionally:

Grab a cheap frigate, make sure it has guns and a warp disruptor, and go get blown up in low sec a few times. Bonus: even funnier if you're drinking a lot at the same time.

Grab a scanner frigate with an expanded probe bay and scan people down just so you can fly around them annoyingly in circles. If you want to go from being annoying to also being a ****, salvage their wrecks without permission.

Train industry 1, find some minerals and a BPO (from missions or mining) and make something. For instance, some t1 frigates to get blown up in PvP with. This'll take you 4 or 5 hours of playtime to figure out.

Basically, just loaf around like you're doing, but do it in SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaacce....

I'd suggest making a thread in the Recruitment section to try to find a corp that operates during the same time that you play. Having a group of people around to chat with can make a big difference in how much fun you have. In addition, as you get to know people better, you'll start mission running / fighting / doing whatever you do with them, and having a friend around always makes things more interesting.

Make sure you have a goal where you want to get to. If I feel goalless, I take out a piece of paper and just scribble down a few things. Trust me, it helps.
