Does STEAM version count toward 21-day trial reward?

I got a few of my friends into the game via the 21-day trial, can they buy EVE from STEAM and use the code they get there to subscribe with that same account, and will it get me the plex reward in return?

Hopefully the STEAM version counts toward both the game and real subscription because it seems to be the cheapest way to get it when those STEAM sales pop up. Free 30 days and all too.

My friends and I are big STEAM fans and we own all of our games there and love buying games through STEAM, so any warnings against it will fall on deaf ears. I myself own the game through STEAM and am loving it. Especially since it doesn't tie it to STEAM and I can install it separately from the website if I wanted.

It will activate their account just fine but you will not get the PLEX for it. It says so specifically in the buddy trial fine print.

No

Adding to that, this could also be found by doing just 30 seconds read in the buddy invite rules and policy yourself.

" Payments not eligible for this offer: Direct Debit, CD Keys, including CD Keys purchased or received from non-CCP sources and online stores such as, but not limited to: Steam Store, Direct2Drive, Gamers Gate, Impulse Driven."

2nd mistake, do NOT use Steam for EVE. I'm a steam fan myself but Steam and EVE don't mix. Last time I played it all updates on EVE are about 3 or 4 days delayed, which means you can't play for those days.

Really? I play EVE via Steam and I have never had any problems with late patches.
I know Steam had problems with this a couple of years ago with a lot of games but it has gotten a lot better.

Eve isn't updated through steam, might have been in the past, but launcher pulls the updates automatically now and worked fine for me while I used my steam install

This. For me, Steam is nothing but a shortcut to Eve and an overlay that I sometimes use. Eve has its own updater which doesn't care about Steam.
