Interesting. I'm glad I saw this thread because I was starting to train towards a low/null sec covert ops exploration ship with the very thought that I could cloak up if other ships entered the system while I was clearing a site. I can see the potential for abuse as described above but I have to think there is a happy medium between "never despawn the location if a cloaked ship is nearby" and "Despawn after 60 seconds".

If CCP wants to encourage me to strike out into the vast blackness of scary land, this doesn't seem like the way to do it.

Well, it really is (was) great. Like I said, been doing it for a very long time, was my main isk generation source. But it does take time to find a site, and depending on traffic, find a system where people aren't going to be looking for you takes time too. Then isk you tracked down magically disappears. Majority of time is spend on locating and then clearing the site. To lose it because you have to stop while you wait 5 minutes for scanners to leave, well, no fun.

The main issue is also cannot just wait for the scan probes to show. Some will launch DS probe, but myself, I will quicky burn across system dscanning close to each planet. I can then deploy probes close giving only maybe a minute before you are pinpointed. I know you are in a site, I will wait you out. Don't let me locate you, well, I wouldn't waste my time.

The ratting itself is PvE. Getting away with it is PvP.

Yes, let's undock and go after people cloaked somewhere within the 300km grid of a site.
