From a microeconomic standpoint, I agree with you.

However, I think there is more at play here. It is my opinion that there are artificial market forces at work here. I've suspected for a few weeks now that there are a small number of persons/entities buying up supply so as to increase the value of those goods. Machariel price has increased by over 50% in Caldari space since April 1. Last night, there was 1 CNR on the Lonetrek Market (730M isk); zero in The Citadel; ~5 in The Forge (655M+ isk). Last week, the average market cost for a naked CNR was ~500M. That's a significant increase in a matter of 5 days.

Welcome to the market. This is always happening, but it's happening more often right now for a variety of factors, biggest of which is the market instability and chance for huge profits when trading. Second of which is the massive changes to drone and mission loot drops that just came about.

EDIT: The thing here is, market manipulators are raising faction item prices, yes. But normal t1 items are always based on mineral prices. The only affect market manipulators have here is in increasing the profit margins in small amounts. Never by more than 15% of the total value. It IS happening, yes, and it does increase costs, but when it does costs will always move back down within a few days until someone does it again. It's a cycle. Good industrialists pay attention to these cycles and choose the best times to sell (usually right after a manipulator buys up the stock and resells it higher, thank you Dixie Thrasher manipulator. Your coattails taste of sweet sweet ISKies.)
