Damage output - what does more medium pulse lasters 2 or gatling pulse lasers 2

I'm trying to figure out what does more damage between the two modules assumming skills, ammo type, and the target is whithin optimal range. Obviously the medium pulse does more per a hit, but the gatling lasers cycle nearly twice as fast.

Generally, the more PG and CPU it requires the more damage it gives out

The medium will out damage the gatling by a lightyear, guaranteed. The gatling is in fact the best tracking laser there is. It is also the easiest to fit. That's what it is. Damage output is only a secondary concern.

Medium Pulses by far more damage. If you can fit them. What you trying to fly?

I was fitting them to a retribution, I wasn't aware of the tracking on the gattling being better than the medium. Guess I learned something else as well :)

For PvP, put dual light pulses on your retri. For PvE, medium pulses if you can fit them without mods.

It's situational. Others may disagree but in my experience the choice between Mediums, Duals or Gatlings comes down to 'range v tracking'. The effective dps can end up being similar.

If you are brawling close with Gatlings, while having slightly lower eft dps, they offer a much better hit quality. When fitting Mediums, unless you need the range (Slicer, kite fit Retribution or Punisher) you'll get a much more rounded, un-gimped set-up if you fit Duals.

Gatlings have the highest ROF of all weapon systems, which can translate into more hit opportunities. That is, in a moment when your opponents transversal drops it can make the difference between two good volleys and one. Also, Conflag can be more viable on the Retribution (0.37 rads IIRC), especially if you learnt how to shoot lasers on the Punisher first. Shooting lasers on the Punisher is 'hard mode' but a fun challenge. With the Retri's range bonus you are also hitting out well past scram range with Scorch so personally I like the extra tracking up close.

Plus, they look cool as feck sliding out of the ship hull to take aim :)
