For the new players.

This is an alt.

My main makes enough Isk and in return I want to bring something into the game for new players.
You can mail me your wishes, hopes and dreams in EVE.
Once per week I will take the 3 best mails and reward them with either ships, skillbooks, implants, modules or blue prints (those can be originals or copies)

To avoid anyone getting scammed I want to make sure people understand how the contract system works.
This to ensure you can safeguard I will not scam you.
You check and verify the contract if the item is contracted to you instead of the other way around.
You also check there is no cost or trade which would result into you paying in any form for the item(s)

Always. And I can't stress that enough. Always take your time to check a contract completely. Make sure the terms are as agreed upon and only then you accept the contract.

This whole setup is only for players pretty new characters. Since I have no means to verify you're an alt of a genuine newbee I just set the age limit to 60 days. Anyone over 60 days old isn't going to win anything here.

CSPA has been set to zero Isk. The only cost you have is a few moments of your time to mail me your short or long answer.

Do not send me any Isk or items. I pay for this action from my main's wallet.

Now as why to use an alt for this:

Simply because i don't want my main to look all nice and fluffy. My main is from 2004 and reputation is one of the core elements in EVE.
If I were to hold this action with my main it would raise questions from certain people.

You can reply here, yet to have a chance to win something you will have to mail me.
I will check mail twice per week and draw winners every saturday.

Prizes will be put on contract or direct traded over depending on location.

Verify any contract from me with uttmost scrutiny.
Make absolutely sure this isn't a scam in any form.

Core rule of Eve #5912: "If it looks too good to be true, it's too good to be true."

Not a newbie, but color me skeptical, particularly about all the assurances it isn't a scam. Scammers assure you it's not a scam right before they scam you. P

If it really isn't, then this is commendable, but possibly in the wrong forum section (straddles the line between "newbie forums" and "Events & Gatherings").

In addition to Petrus' comment:

Intelligence is one of the most valuable things in Eve, never give it away for free unless you're willing to deal with the consequences. Even just letting someone know (in this case, by e-mail) that you're a relatively new player you're opening yourself to potentially being targeted by scams relying on your relative lack of understanding of game mechanics of various levels of obscurity. If you reveal your location you're opening yourself up to actual griefing, especially if you're attaching text that tells someone what you are doing (say, a "wish" that reveals you're a miner).

Short version: When in doubt, always lie. When not in doubt, still refrain from really revealing anything. This is not to say don't be friendly, I've made some good friends in this game-- just don't actually trust anyone you can't walk into the next room and punch in the arm when they screw you over.

(The person in the next room will screw you over, too, in that case it's just funny rather than frustrating, usually.)

Both posters are absolutely right.

EVE is a very very harsh place and in general you can count on the fact that if anyone wants to do something it has it's price.

Therefor I mailed Chribba and asked him to hand out the prizes on a weekly basis. I just hope he doesn't ask the same price for handing out freebees to new players as he asks for the big stuff going through his hands.

I am certain we can agree that if I can get Chribba to hand out the prizes that it will be frowned upon less.

I am not talking about things like CNR's and other high profile stuff.
Winners would receive ships, modules, skillbooks, BP's etc which they can start using pretty soon.

I have been playing this game since early 2004 and I know that sometimes the thing that keeps you in the game is the random act of kindness or generousity of a stranger.
Just as the random act of asshattery can make you decide to quit the game too early.

I just want more people to stay passt that initial cold shower which EVE at times tends to be.

It's easy to scam, kill, grief or lie to new players. But in my personal point of vieuw the easy way isn't always the best way.

So I hope the big -C- will have an affordable pricelist for me to provide him with the winnings on a weekly basis and him handing them out.

Add some Veldspar crystals to the gift list, I'm sure C will lower his prices just because of that.

No, I won't because of Kestrel.

But he can have my main's name and all because trust works in both directions.

I know for sure if I pull one over on -C- my main will get in a lot of butthurt.

In light of Greybeard's comment about giving out information for free, I'm not sure how Chribba being involved makes this any safer other than avoiding contract scams. It wouldn't be any safer unless the newbies sent their requests to Chribba, and he forwarded them on, anonymized.

But, you know, whatever. If the OP is honest, this is a cool endeavor. If not, she may get a nice post deletion and a ban warning for trying to scam in the newbie forums.

I actually know the rules.

This isn't a scam and I know how hard it is to be legit in EVE.

And scamming newbees is like griefing newbees. Both bring nothing.

I'll echo what others have said, this looks like a really cool act of generosity. And if it is, then kudos to you sir for deciding to help the newbies.

And I understand where you're coming from since 10-30M or so in stuff to hand out per week is really nothing to an older player, but it can be a huge act of generosity to younger players. I've often gone myself and dropped a couple M into a new friend's wallet to help him get started and have seen how big a deal it can be to them.

That said, if it looks to good to be true, it's usually a scam, so buyer beware. Though you do really seem genuine in your offer.

I should have known handing out free stuff to new players would be hard.

People don't buy in with Isk. They buy in with stories as of what their hopes, dreams, goals are in EVE.
This is for new characters up to 60 days only.

Sadly enough even actions like that get distrusted, blacklabeled and ignored due to the fact that EVE has become a metagame for backstabbing.

I had hoped that if I were to give you the prizes so you could contract them over atleast the fear for scams would have been gone.
Sadly enough I am mistaken since people are even thinking it's somehow getting a pay off by knowing who the new players are.
I will have to come up with something else then. But EVE has become a very sad place where trust isn't a rarety but it's almost extinct.

I usually charge 250m to secure lotteries. However since you seem to do this without ppl buying in(?) unless I got that wrong I don't think you'd need me since it's free.

New player incentives
From: Cody Zamorah

To: Chribba,

Hello Chribba,

As we both know EVE can be a very harsh and unforgiving game.
However there are sometimes those faint sparkles of generousity.

I wonder howmuch you would charge if I were to deliver the prizes for my action to you and you hand them out to the winners.

This would make more clear this isn't an attempt to scam but a genuine attempt to do a smaller lottery without cost for new characters.

The link to my lottery is here:

https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=104863&find=unread

If you were to receive the prizes and hand them out to winners on a weekly basis I would be gratefull.
This however is also cost dependant ofcourse for your service.

Cody.

Incase you require my main's name to verify I am up for it but ofcourse under the word of you that the name doesn't get revealed to anyone.

Since I don't intend to pay Chribba 250 mill per weekly handout I am going to do it differently.
I will log in on this character once a week, go to one of the starter area's and look for memorable names. Names that show imagination.
Then check if they are less that 60 day old characters and just give them a ship, a set of modules, a set of BP's a set of implants or something else.
Just something they could use on the careerpath they would like to venture in at that point of time.

20-30 mill a week is peanuts for me. I don't even have to log in to make that per hour easy. However I know it can be just the incentive to keep that new player going just a bit longr and maybe end up hooked to the game.

If this action still results in distrust and people thinking I have some alternative motives I will look if I can provide the items to someone like Akita T or Marlona Sky so they can hand them out.

And as a little extra information.
Not one player mailed about their hopes, dreams and goals in this game.

Which is quit saddening that EVE has gone this far in the level of distrust.
Not that distrust is a bad thing, but sadly that it is commonly accepted that everything must be something bad.

For what it's worth, Cody Zamorah seems genuinely interested in helping out newer players. I have not participated this campaign, but he has been helpful answering questions for some of us new folks in the corporation. He even transferred some ISK to a couple of us unexpectedly on the basis that we put it to use and help a new player down the line.

Today was the kick off.

Every sunday I will look for some interesting names in rookie area's and hand out items, ships, Isk etc to help some individuals to have a slightly easier step towards their first goal(s).

I am not going to bother to post here what I handed out to whom. It's enough they know and I hope it help them in some way.

And Cellese Saer'zin, don't bother posting since the majority will now claim you are either an alt of mine or someone I work with.
This is the sad reality of the playerbase thinking.

I just wish you luck and enjoyment in the careerpath you set for yourself.

Truth but amongst the idiots, lazy feks and morons sometimes you'll find someone "worthy" of your help and effort, those are the ones who deserve being saved from mediocrity and stupidity.

Well, if you TRULY are looking for beginners, it´s the rookie channel as mentioned above. However since you get kicked from there if you are older than 30 days I guess that´s not an option. You can always open a new account, I suppose, though.

So imo, the regular help channel is the next best thing where people who are older than 30 days but are still beginners go. And rookie systems aren´t off-limits to idiots either.

But whatever, congrats to your initiative, any help is a good thing.

I am not the one who decides who's worthy or not.
Even if someone has the most ludicrous idea's or asperations in my personal point of vieuw I am not the one to judge them on that.

The reason I ask for their idea's, hopes, dreams etc is mainly to let themselves have to think about what they actually want to do in EVE.
Make them think about the possebilities EVE offers and start with some choices.
Those who have no idea at all can then be shown all which is possible and this is probably the very first step which actually can make someone decide to stay.

I don't care if your path goes towards mission running, trade, PvP, ganking, spying or whatever. That is our own choice.
My choice is simple. I select a few every sunday and help them to take the first step on their chosen path in some way.
Criteria I select on are my own and yes, I also select people who would do thing I would never do in a game.
