So i recently joined faction warfare, and i would like to know what peoples opinions are about what ships to use, i was using a merlin, hookbill caracal. But so far i got eaten up with all of these..

One that really pissed me off is i was in my hookbill with 2 tracking d's and this thrasher just tore me up even with tracking disrupters on him and tracking speed scripts. didnt make sense..

So basically im lookin for a ship that would be able to hold its on vs those nasty thrashers, and stil be able to take the minor plex's, something for 1v1, or even 1v2 any ideas?

oh forgot to note, i can use any ship any race.. no restrictions here, 52mil sp combat pilot.

well i know it depends, on the situation there ships there fits, but it seems to be thrashers and corms, and t1 frigs in general, dramiels seem to be hott.

i know i could fit an arty thrasher and just go balls to the wall.

But i mean, it sucks minor plex's dont allow t2 frigs through it.

Your problem is not the ship you're using, it's your tactics. Thrashers get 10% tracking speed bonus per level, and autocannons already track really well. Breaking a thrasher's tracking isn't easy. You could probably do it. If you had complete range control (e.g. could get really close) but it sounds like you didn't.

Any of the ships you listed are fine. If you want to kill thrashers specifically then an SML kiting fit for the hookbill would probably do it.

Do yourself a favor and just find a wingman. Offensive plexing while fighting 2 v1 is tough. There is no OP ship for this and enemies will find the proper counter to your ship.

Get out of the solo mentality and get a wingman. It'll be alot easier.

lol yeah wingman, man i wish the caldari milita was better at co-oping lol..

Yeah i didnt manage my range well i should got close to him, and just tried to stay 0 on him and his artys woulda prolly not been able to hit me, but my fit was a kiting fit and he was arty fit so. i didnt adapt very well, still learning.

A corpmate of mine had a very active February doing small ship solo and gang warfare. Look at his kills and losses for fits:

Stay away from my KB, it'll make you worse.

You don't tracking speed disrupt Thrashers unless they are fit with Artis. You use range disruption & webs then kite him from 7.5km or so.. The web is to allow you to maintain your range which is out of his range once you have him TD'd.

If he's fit with Artis your best chance is to use tracking speed and get in close..

I'd suggest getting one of your corpmates to Fly both AC & Arti Thrashers so you can test your tactics prior to trying it for real.. That's what your corpmates are there for.. to let you shoot them.. Lol

Forgive me for being young and stupid here. You're in a minor plex with a Thrasher (plausible). A Loki was boosting him (implausible). Am I missing something?

_It's very simple, really. If you see Tengus on scan, they are ratting. If you see a shitload of Tengus, the Russians are blobbing. If you see Proteuses on scan, they will be on top of you in about a second. If you see a shitload of Proteuses, the big boys are having a goodfight. _

no i undocked, he was in a thrasher.. i burned away to pull him off undock, there was a bunch of wartargets in local.. i got him like 80k of the undock and started to orbit outside his scram/webrange, when i shoulda burned in under his guns once i realized he was arty fit, i had 2 x tracking disrupters with speed scripts in them cause i was going insanly fast i wanted a perfect orbit. but like some one said i probably didnt assess the situation very well and adapt to it. i died..

You have to know what scripts to use depending on the guns he is using. If he was using autos your tracking disprupters were probably not helping. If he had artys then you were not keeping transversal up enough or forgot to turn on your ab. Or hit an accelleration gate.

I'm not familiar with the double td hookbill. One td is the way i go if i use one at all.

Make faction war occupancy pvp instead of pve https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=53815&#post53815

Also generally don't try to orbit tight with an mwd on. Your sig blooms bigger than your speed can go in a tight orbit. Pluse your agility throws a tight orbit out too far.

Yes, probably you don't know what 'boosting' means here. The Thrasher was in a fleet with a Loki running warfare links. The Loki doesn't need to be on grid, or in the minor, for the Thrasher to benefit from the links. The Minmater militia has one gentleman who carries a Loki booster around like a security blanket, and one lady who I must assume gently rocks her twin booster alts awake each morning - and then dumps last night's dishwater on her own children, to send them to make the boosters' breakfast.

What I'm saying is, it's not implausible.

OP, use range scripts.

I'm no super-pro, but here is my 2 isk: All of the ships you mentied are fine in FW. Dual web Hookbills in particular are nasty. You just ran into a thrasher, which is a pretty hard counter to frigs with only T1 resists. It doesn't hurt that they are also horridly broken and completely OP. You should fly them if you can.

Caracals are good when light missile fit against frigs, but fare poorly against other cruisers.

A lot of it is rock paper scissors, and a lot is just that a lot of these FW pilots are just flat good. Expect to die. Practice running, which strangely, is a hard skill to master (at least for me).

Try destroyers first, then use the faction frigs. Thrashers and catalyst and Hookbills and comets do well in plexes. I don't know about firetail or slicers or the other destroyers.

Don't overlook T1 cruisers for mediums. They are fun and cheap, and get you lots of fights. Thorax, Vexor, Rupture, blaster moas are all pretty common.

Oh, that guy that killed you-check his loss mails and steal his ships and fits. No need to recreate the wheel. ;)

First, choose your targets wisely. A Destroyer is nothing to choose to fight if you are in a frigate and you are a noob. Destroyers are made for killing frigates. If you wanna solo a destroyer then you need a plan first. There is a simple and noob-prove way to kill these beasts with a hookbill: Fit missile launchers, MWD, Tracking Range Disruptors and orbit him at 17 km and keep point and kite him. Works nice and he won't be able to touch you as long as you a) are cap stable, b) are faster than him (even if he overloads his MWD) and c) don't bump into anything like station or astereoids. The only problem with this approch is: it will take you ages to kill him due to your low dps which means that he may get in this friends. So what do we learn from this... get your own blob (ehhh I mean friends) and make it a fast death. In EVE the blob always wins!

Booster alts are quite common in the warzone.
