That used to be the problem, sure.

The 'TonyG' era of EVE went to great lengths to portray Amarr as nothing but evil, worse than the Sansha even. Cackling, moustache-twirling, black-hat evil (the kind that takes no talent to imagine, and made me groan to read).

Before all that, for a long time Amarr was the most complex and morally ambiguous nation represented in the game universe. Doing them justice was a challenge.

Now, the problem is that the Amarr as a faction are officially and canonically a f*cking joke. Not just irredeemably evil for the sake of evil, but actually stupid and moronic.

Now, It's not actually possible to be a sane individual and still support the Empire.

Those of us who have been doing so for the better part of a decade sure do feel silly now, don't we?

My half ass version... dont be so harsh, just write down in 15 min... I actually needed more tiem to find the links, than rework the story:

About Tony G.... I think we had already the discussion, see here. I agree, but I also think bitching is useless. is like trying to stop the clouds, by building a ship. .... Is long Jim Jarmusch night.

Edit: Full movie.

I would love to have those classes ingame. See here:

Nice to throw the starving dogs a bone.

But... perhaps you should not let the dogs be starving in the first place?

Four new chronicles with Crucible - which is after the content department got whittled down and everybody took on double work duty - one new off-expansion chronicle now, more planned for Inferno, new events and a FF roundtable to match, a new CCP-created lore wiki with over a thousand new articles (not to mention a ton of new material, and more being published with every expansion), and a FF roundtable that involved me and Gnauton - the surviving members of the fiction team- outlining a strategy that includes more of the same, plus impending newsposts, thematic plans, and other new things. None of which, I should add, Marketing had any stake in, though we're having tons of fun working with them on other projects that include things like the Fanfest cinematic trailer.

I wish I could be excited about this. I really do.

But all it does is confirm me that the EVE Storyline is (again) way out of the hands of the players and all possibilities to be engaged and immersed has been cut. It is now all about spoon feeding and reading lore instead of being a part of it.

Let me exemplify it this way; there is nothing in your list that actually encourages me to log into the game and play EVE. Instead I might as well unsubscribe and I can still read your chronicles, the Fiction Portal and whatever fluff surrounding the game but not really IN the game. In fact, it is my plan to do just that.

P.S. I am not blaming you personally, Abraxas. That blame I put on EVE's upper management and their current focus which I find utterly boring and unappealing.

Very, very off topic. I try to make a likeable (likeable of course in hollywood-style) character; a character which drop his wife in the scene.... but is still loveable.... I had so far just the idea of David Duchovny end of season 5 of Californication. Where Bates leaves Karen, and she breaks out in happyness Big smileCalifornication : End of Time. I need something like this.... everybody... who is helping me over my little writers bloc gets a 1 mio isk form me.

What annoys me more in the story is the inflation of violence and casualtys...... Its remainds me of the EU books.... God I hate them. Were it goes from super to über to absurd. If I would tell you a story from a superstar starcuriser which can wack everthing... to a deathstar which can destroy suns and whole systems... to Jedi´s which can timetravel..... you would say it is BS. But I say no is canon now. Where does it come form? It comes from the idea the more is better. Which is true. But also leads so often to a inflationtrap.

So If you like to have the Amarr badass.... evil bad ass... for example:

... just let Chamberlain Karsoth looking at a dieing bird.... thats it... let him doing nothing.... and let someone next to him ask... "why you doing nothing?"

Than let him give a bad ass answer.

That is the way... which worked very well in the movie "Thin red line".... you let the view/reader experience some awful stuff... which gets toped, by the dieing breath of a innocent subject/actor. After that... like the Nick Nolte chrarcter: Some badass lines, what a heartless officer he is. That way the viewer/reader cares more (like Stalin said, millions dead is just news). You can even in the end, like in the movie, add a line which explains why you saw the dieing bird..... and the reader can than choose was it right to do nothing or was it wrong to act like in our example Karsoth.

But Im very off topic now.... over all was it a okay chron a little to unstructur for my taste... and the motivation of the actors werent clear Sad

I would love to have those classes ingame. See here:

In a old thread I played with a simpler variation of this idea. Consider the left-right axis as economic collectivism vs economic individualism and the up-down axis as social liberty.

While I like the fact that you guys have obviously recognised the huge brain-fart required to miss the editing of that chron, about a chron that is a massive brain-fart of missed editing. So, Kudos there....

What REALLY bugs me is the singular fact you have mostly destroyed, as Graelyn said the brilliant and deep nature of the Amarrian races.

Who are we now, evil slavers with a zombie empress with crazy mind powers and really not anything of depth?

I would hope that somewhere along the line we can start returning the EVE I joined and loved, a dark universe of conflict of dark shades of grey, the leaders where good people in bad positions struggling to keep things under control.

Again, now? Not so much, I can't identify with any of the leaders, any of the positions, much of anything.

But really, What the HELL is with orbitally bombarding a planet that MIGHT have a book, with zero heretical content other than a misprinted word?

Even if this article is a light hearted one, it doesn't come across as such, if its not, its just frustrating.

God knows I favor active storyline discussion, but yes, that was a bizarre comment you made and you should feel incredibly silly.

In the past few years we've published The Book of Emptiness, Two Deaths, Merely Disassembled, and King Slaver. Go even further back, and you find my chapter on them in The Burning Life, along with stories like Of God and her Beast. The nuances and moral grey areas of those pieces are arguably deeper than those of any other empire we've ever written about. These stories deal with questions of identity, faith, redemption and death, sexuality and love, and what it takes to destroy and rebuild someone using their faith as a lynchpin. I'm perfectly familiar with existing Amarr stereotypes, and I have never relied on them in my own writing.

So this positing that in recent years the Amarr have been reduced to evil cavemen is quite simply wrong. What I'm seeing instead is a fear from certain corners - and this isn't the first or second thread where it's popped up - that their roleplaying favorites will be cheapened with the addition of levity, humor, and other tones than somber, gloomy reverence.

Greyscale writes in a wonderfully British style, tongue firmly planted in cheek. He's describing orbital strikes against settlements accused of harboring a book. When you read something like that, you need to consider that you may not be expected to only take it literally. After all, if your aim is to see nuance, you need to accept that sometimes your faction will be the source of some of the greatest questions (and hopefully answers) known to Man in New Eden, and sometimes they're just going to do something crazy.

The chronicles aren't presented solely as literal news reports; they are that in part, but they're also, quite simply, a bunch of metaphors and styles and thoughts about the world around you, and they need to be treated like they have more than one layer of meaning. Not unlike most religious texts, come to think of it.

Im going really offf topic here.... sorry about that.Big smile

Why I have to think about the dramatic chipmunk? And the backround music? PBig smile It is psychological interesting, as well that it feels like Cool the most used word here in the topic is brainfart. Im to only one how had that connection. Damn.

First: About:
"He's describing orbital strikes against settlements accused of harboring a book." thats why I have write this. Tip for the future.... you like to do so... just make a do so... CCP just make a Chron about that topic..... (P.S: see the line which I use, desnt even need a faction in it, so that part could than be totally open).

Second:
"The chronicles aren't presented solely as literal news reports; they are that in part, but they're also, quite simply, a bunch of metaphors and styles and thoughts about the world around you, and they need to be treated like they have more than one layer of meaning. Not unlike most religious texts, come to think of it." Yes and that what I see the Chron, a metaphor for Greyscale about a inside CCP topic (a mix out good inside joke and rant about people around.... maybe people which doesnt send the stuff upward (you know, like normal "hard" institutions are doing it P, Cool Publius trys to find the chart from Fritz Scharpf in the end of his book "Games Real Actors Play. Actor-Centered Institutionalism in Policy Research" about the cost of people in different institutions to go to the their next higher level... aka Boss. Cool
So I see the chron in the same way like my last lines.... it is a inside joke.... which people know/get... which have read the same Books like me; or on your side had the same "stromberg-style" meetings etc..... (P.S. You see how not funny my Scharpf joke is.... arrrg... damn you Abraxas for dont get itP or havent the same infos P).....

This was my rand on that topic......

God I hate you :P BloodBird why your are bringing reason in this diskussion? Lets incriminate the victims; those with restricted information...

Now let me praise others... should I praise? ... should I drop my LA-Mask?.... no... no, we dont want it ...No, I over read "you should feel incredibly silly" and Publius holds on his new found LA kindness. Shocked

By the way I read also this: "involved me and Gnauton - the surviving members of the fiction team" And I know it is a world with short resources and damn....some have even shorter..... so dont get it the wrong way.

P.S. I try gets away from brainfart to damn....

I was going with the idea of:

1. The Pax Ammarria is Bad News

2. The reason it is bad news isn't exactly what is stated in the chronicle, but the story in the chronicle is a theory that has come up, to explain some goings on.

To explain:

The notion of a central press printing everything is somewhat inefficient, given the size and scope of the Empire (40% of all inhabitable space or thereabouts, not including Mandate & Kingdom).

Instead, it is a network of local printers, but it is still "the court chamberlain's personal press", in the same manner of doing things as occurs in one of the Amarr COSMOS missions: Saint Ageroth being wrapped in a few thousand death shrouds, so that many different shrines can have "the genuine death shroud of Saint Ageroth"

So... during the printing process, one of the localised printers, made The Extra M, and as a result there was an Investigation.

And it was found that the local printer was also distributing Seditious Literature (gasp!), including things not too dissimilar to the http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Fraudulent_Pax_Amarria

And, subsequent investigations find cultists, good old Sani Sabiks, hence, the Theology Council assault troopers.

Anyone with the Pax Ammarria, may be a Sani Sabik, according to the Investigation, Or a sympathiser. Or some other kind of seditious person, the nature of their treasonous heresy will be determined when they are found guilty at trial (they are always guilty).

So... the Pax Ammarria is Bad News, but the reasons why it is Bad News are Wildly Speculated About.

Least, that's how I'm interpreting it

Be a Space Nun, it is fun. \o/

A fun story, and I also think that not everything in EVE needs to be 100% serious all the time.
