Incarna vs. Second Life

I used to be a staunch supporter of BiS (Barbie In Space), aka Incarna. During one of the many threads on the topic someone suggested that those im favor of it go play something like Second Life. Out of curiosity I did just that, and got myself a Second Life account.

Well, after a few months playing, building and decorating various homes, at this point all I can really say is: don't bother any more with Incarna. I mean, finding myself back into Captain's Quarters was like being trapped inside a wooden body, however pretty, awkwardly moving around, bumping into the furniture, unable to 'cam' around or even leave my home. It was a dreadful 'welcome home' experience for me.

So, yeah, just forget about Incarna. Either that, or improve upon it tenfold; but in its current incarnation Incarna sucks 9 ways to Sunday. And I've switched to 'spinning' view now.

Having this added to Incarna would make it 100% less pointless.

Second life is furry haven as well as pedo haven, plus it lags like ****, why would you want ANYTHING to be even REMOTELY similar to it?

That's a Templar, an Amarr fighter used by carriers.

If Incarna is akin to second life, then why cant our characters have 100% muscle mass, rabbit ears, and tiger tails?

So wait, you actually supported Incarna as it was? And I thought I was fighting a futile battle...

The Incarna as we got it was totally horrible (as far as walking in stations goes, new turrets and agent finder were still awesome =D)

What I support is the Incarna we have yet to have and has been talked about since before i joined EVE. The stuff from fanfest 2008 is what we want,

Second Life is still around? I haven't heard of it in years, I thought it bit the dust. Hopefully CCP decided to permantly scrap the whole walking in stations thing, it sucked from the get go. We have freaking space ships, this is a game revolving around that we don't need to walk into a station to do something we can do more effeciently from the side menu. And BTW the door is still broken.

I don't know what I want out of the incarna side of the game. I'm not opposed to it if they can make it "fun" or immersive (edit: snarky joke ruined by ******* GOOGLE CHROME) but...I just can't think of what it would take for that to happen.

Certainly not modeling it off of Second Life, though.

Linden Labs provided a social platform with 3D avatars when others had chat boxes and avatar pictures or 2D models, their users built numerous in-game things on top of it, be it businesses (RMT), clubs with DJs playing live, artistic content, games (casinos, RPGs), and so on.
CCP created a game with social tools, then added a 3D avatar showcase (it's the best avatar creator I've seen so far) but didn't make anything of it (yet...maybe), they fight RMT and try to maintain the core of the game: spaceship splosions. Other than mods and ships, user created content is out of game via websites.
That doesn't look like it can be put side by side.

I installed Second Life twice and played it for a total of 10 minutes.

I immediately got approached by furries, pedos, sickos, everybody around me was murr murr (who recalls this term? Bear yes I played MUDs).

But what made me quit was when a SL2 guy offered me to go mining... they really know no respect!

I think you guys miss the point of avatars, its not about making it more efficient. It's about making giving more depth to the game and making it more engaging. I actually came back to start playing EVE because of the new avatars.

I love the fact that CCP even tried to expand the game to avatars, I never thought that would happen. Those of you that don't like it, are not forced to use it. (Well now at least) So I don't see why anyone is complaining about it, you can sit and in your ship and spin it 24/7.

I think it's really hard to go backwards and make elements of the game more engaging. Like how most games have quick travel, it kind of spoils the fun of heading somewhere and finding adventure on your way, also it really makes some places that are suppose to feel gar away and remote, exactly that when you have to get there yourself.

EVE could of easily had instant transfer of goods and items in this game through mail like WoW has, or have NPC couriers, or banks accessible from everywhere, but they didn't. What if they had though? And then CCP took it away? I can imagine everyone would be up in arms that they couldn't trade and sell and get their goods delivered to them instantly from anywhere.

With adding avatars, I think its something CCP wanted to do from the beginning with EVE, but couldn't with the technology they currently had. Now they are trying to add that flavor to the game, and people are up in arms because it ruins how quick and easy everything is currently done through the station window.

So Eve can't cater to gay players but other online games offer rabbit ears, donkey dongs and you can make it rain penises? This is the sort of gay **** I'm talking about!
