I guess CCP has the right to contort EVE into a Gordian Knot of absurdity by abandoning logic and pursuing the aimless wishes of a handful of "cool kids" (in their own immaturity - regardless of age) with whom they are impressed. It may very well be CCP has reached the limits of their inventiveness and imagination. Just because you can write code and wish for something really cool doesn't mean you can design a cogent, long lasting game.

Many have tried and failed at inventing games. Many games have lasted the test of time (read: centuries). Turning EVE from a sandbox to a server full of victims for parasitic sociopaths? CCP has the right, but it's not a game, nor is it a sandbox. It may appeal to a certain element, but I can't see any future in it. My guess is, therefore, they've put all their eggs in the Sony/Playstation/Dust-bin and have forsaken EVE.

Of course, you can't get the truth from THEM, as they're a corporation (read: professional liars.)

So...you're either a ganker or a victim. Too bad. To have such potential reduced to a farcical passtime for sociopaths...well, I guess they're people, too. Maybe CCP should apply to the UN for charity status to get some credit for turning EVE into a haven for the mentally ill.

What's funny is, the OP said nothing to provoke responses like these. It's almost as though there's folks waiting for the slimmest of chances to regurgitate this sort of bilge.

Actually, this thread was thoughtful, insightful and fun...until these two additions. But, aren't they characteristic of exactly what the OP is gesturing toward. If CCP wants to pander to somebody...and this is what they choose, it says all that needs to be said about them. These two respondents? They speak for themselves, and oh so eloquently.

Believing human beings, a species that has based it's entire existence on either becoming superior or destroying those they deem inferior will ever get along is a great way to set yourself up for failure in a world where they are the dominant species.

I've always found this view to be an interesting, but rather ill-informed and vain-glorious one. It is oblivious of the fact that all successful human endeavor was achieved through a cooperative group effort, even when it's been a competitive or aggressive action against another group. It's always defined in terms of groups. It's also a view that's oblivious to the well-established fact that humanoids are a social species (in the vein of ants and termites if you will.)

Furthermore, this sort of view obliterates the fact that all movements in the human experience deemed "forward" movements, have been in the direction of making this cooperative effort more efficient, and so more effective. In truth, it's only in recent times the myth of the unbridled individual competition was born...the interesting part is, it was hatched by people who, in this world of high-finance, winners and losers, are by definition the losers.

I might add, the idea of dominating existence is fast being replaced by the idea of harmonious existence. Those who think dominating existence is possible, are fast being seen as at best delusional, and at worst, psychotic. The notion that the success of the species carries with it the success of the individual is overcoming the primitive and brutal belief in conquest. Actually, I'm surprised to see the view above quoted expressed at this day and age in a venue that obstensibly involves people whose thinking is alleged to be a tad more advanced than the average bear's. Then, it may take a while for the relics of the past to finally disappear.

Could it be EVE is a refuge for some of these...relics? Or, at least, they're trying to make it into one...?
