I remember how I and friends pinched one another in the balls. That was when I was 6-8 years old. It gets boring very fast, but I could imagine that some do this at an higher age. It is the stupid things you do when you are a kid and we did laugh about it. I know of one guy who grew up in an orphanage and where they masturbated onto cookies and made each other eat them. Unimaginable for me, but they had a fun time, too.

Or listen to the kids in the background to this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVE60zwXx1k

I really like the ideas generated by some pretty intelligent people all coalescing into a very cool game. I play when I feel like missioning, mining, deadspace complexing, scanning, talking with corp mates or just to look at the graphics. One thing I never have logged in specifically to do is give people grief. I am not talking about pvp, thats a part of the game and an integral part at that but I am refering more to the art of yelling at a mirror because its too reflective or in eve online terms, abusing someone in game for not doing the same things as themselves for entirely different reasons due to fact they have different interests/lifestyles etc.

Please forgive me for what I type next lol.

For too many years I have joyfully thrown drunk idiots out of pubs, defended anyone/everyone from bullies in a very physical sort of way that only they seem to understand. But why the @#$% would I want to spend my time at home relaxing and give people grief in an online game??? Somehow it seems idiotic dealing with very real physical violence day in and day out then want to do it in any unreal sort of way to relax.

I can't be bothered to "grief" people most of the time, but it's kind of like seeing someone get hit in the nuts. It's funny every single time.

No one wants to get hit in the nuts, ever. Everyone laugh when someone else takes a shot to the balls, even you. Do you want to kick someone in the nuts? Probably not. Do you still laugh when it happens, yes.

That's why people greif.

Edit: Since it's a game no one is getting hurt, so all the better.

I don't laugh when I see someone get kicked in the nuts. I don't know a lot of people that wouldn't though, so far as I am aware anyway.

How about when a Father pitching for his kids softball games gets nailed?

You are wrong. Obviously non PvPers are worse at PvP because they do not practice, but at the same time, it is not something everyone can do. PvE or mining, or any other task against a predictable AI is learnable by the majority of people who play this game. The ability to test your skills against another human being is not always learnable for some people.

I am not good at PvP, I am not sure if I think it is fun or not, but I know even if it was all I wanted to do I would probably not be very good at it. You should play the game how you want to enjoy it but the truth of the matter is not everyone can PvP because it is not as simple as PvE.

Again though you miss the point. That being, this is a game and they have the right to enjoy it however they want. There are other games that are for people who do not wish to be as competitive all the time, and contrary to popular belief among EVE players they are fine as well. The reason why they over react so harshly is because there are some individuals who want to ruin the one game that does not subscribe to that way of play.

Truth is told, just like a story is. Everyone tells their own story and has their own truth. In court, where a judge needs to find out about the truth, does he need to put the pieces together and to find a truth for himself. The judge has no story to tell and does not know if anything is true at all. He needs to compare each story, listen to what the witnesses tell him as being the truth, and decide upon the common pieces what likely happened. It becomes a new story and a new truth. Only the skill of the judge then decide how good this truth is. There is however no "real" truth, or "the one and only" truth.

I will always believe every single person has the same chance to learn the same things, the only difference is the outcome. Did you know there are people out there that believe woman can't join the army...you know...because they are women and obviously have a lesser ability than anyone else (its true because I watched it on a doco) Big smile. Or would you believe some people cant use keys on a keyboard or even use a pointing/clicking device? Its all learn able by everyone somehow, some where and at some time and to some degree of success. The only part that seems fake is the part where one person or one group of people believe they are better than the other/s because of some misplaced sense of superiority just because they decided to learn to use a keyboards keys and mouse in concert better than someone who was out fishing at the time. It is all perspective and everyone dies in the end.

It's not like EVE is FTP and we're picking on 2 day old noobs who just started playing. Everyone knows what they are in for and if you don't know what kind of game you signed up for then you only have yourself to blame.

I liked your reasoning but if you reasoned a little further you would know that in no way does ccp advertise pvp as the only thing to do in eve so it seems very reasonable to expect not everyone plays eve just for pvp.

So it seems more like 2 people stand behind a wall, the little guy wants to beat on the wall if it looks like he has an audience while the normal guy wonders what all the noise is about.

You still have not countered any of the valid points made by anyone here c: The fact of the matter is you should not, nor have the right to, let the fact that people want to explode your space ship bother you in the way that causes you to call for them to stop on moral grounds.

Thats because I dont want anyone to change their minds I just thought it would be nice if their reasons were valid and not tailor made to seem like its the right thing to do :P Part of being human is the need to understand what you are and what your involved in, sometimes the best way is to do what we are both doing right now. In fact the post I personally like the most is post #2 it seemed the most honest and normal way to do anything and deserved my respect, if that actually means anything Big smile

lol sorry for the edit

I only needed to add 1 small point, its not what you choose to do its saying what you have chosen is the only choice available despite all evidence to the contrary. Everyone needs to understand blowing up player ships and/or podding is part of the game but it is in no way the start of the game. Oddly when you consider how ships are built and from what how anyone can come to the conclusion mining and manufacturing isn't a big part of the game.

You do not understand why they explode you? It is for fun. That is the single only reason. You might ask why it is fun to them but that can be either a simple or very complicated question. It is the right thing to do for those people since it makes playing this game fun for them.

It is not the start or end of EVE, it is just what some people enjoy and have the ability to do well. They are right in doing it simply because it is a game and they can.

Has anyone noticed that this game has a thing called mechanics....sort of like guidelines to what is possible to do and what isn't with the exception of exploits etc. I understand if the mechanics support the action then its a valid action to take no matter what....but no where in the game mechanics can it say typing "cowardly miner" to a dude mining while your in a pvp fitted fighting ship is a right action, common sense is the only guidelines in the situation and it leans more to the part where the pvp fitted fighting ship should then be the same ship as the miner and then if he runs "cowardly miner" would be more correctly applied I will even go so far as to say the most cowards you will find are the ones aiming at easy targets P

Ooooh, if by greifing you mean the joy of egging people on as you destroy them. I withdraw everything I have said. While I do not think it is a horrible thing to do in this or any game, it does not really have any point except to boost the ego of individuals who have weakened egos.
