Rookie ships - optional not mandatory!

This spring we got "all new" (graphic-wise) rookie ships.

I doesn't change the fact there's very good reason we call them "n00bships". No Eve Online character that is more than a week old has any use of rookie ship.

They are inferior to even cheapest T1 frigs in any aspect of PvE. PvP in rookie ships is a joke. To turn a rookie ship into a cyno ship you need to use MAPC mod that is often more expensive than a T1 frig hull that doesn't need MAPC to run cyno. Even as a high-sec auto-pilot taxis rookie ships are slower than shuttles.

Right now, every time you dock in a pod on a station that you don't have any ship, you get a useless rookie ship. Also, which is even more annoying, you'll get a mail notification about that. You delete notification and you trash that ship to keep your mail and assets clean.

Let's end this:

  • no rookie ships should be handed out automatically after first 30 days of game time (on par with "Rookie help" channel)
  • a special button should be added to station services (push button, receive bacon.... I mean a rookie ship free of charge).

Plain and simple. Can we get it done for Inferno, please?

I don't agree with ending the handout of Rookie ships.

But I do agree with ending that annoying evemail. Don't tell me I have one, I know it's there. TY.

Oh, and where on earth did you guys go? I saw you in Syndicate and Stain all in the same week :)

Nothing would be lost for you - whenever you'll feel like it, you can press button and receive a rookie ships.

But I don't want to be bothered with item I don't need.

PS. We are in Syndicate :)

rookie ships are alot cheaper than buying a shuttle with a nice size cargo bay for picking up mods when fitting ships
give me a rookie ship when i need it but please stop sending me a mail that i get one with a crap tritanium gift.

also can ccp make rookie ships so they can be reprocessed into minerals..lol

That would be a bad idea (stream of "free minerals" into economy).

actually they often salvage into a metal scrap. so its 501 tritanium you can get out of a noob ship.

I dont agree with ending noobship drops

Its not possible to please all the people all the time, but it sure as hell is possible to Displease all the people, most of the time.

I've got a counter-suggestion that actually makes more sense, just add in a checkbox in the escape menu with "No longer receive rookie ships in stations". Then everyone can be happy.

Personally, I don't really care that much though, and it's easier for the devs to leave them as-is, so I'd rather they stay as-is.

Seems to me if you don't like getting a rookie ship when your ship is blown maybe it is a good thing. Maybe that will make you think harder about getting killed lol.

I disagree. Rookie ships can be extremely useful. I know a guy who kills Sleepers with his Ibis. Not to mention PVPers. So why end the handouts?

Had you took the time to read OP you would had known I was meaning to end MANTATORY handouts.

If you wish to have a rookie ship, you would just press button. But the difference would be that it won't happen automagically like now.

Perhaps have two options: auto receive rookie ships, and "on request only"

Just wanted to throw out there that CCP Soundwave has discussed the fact that with the frigate rebalancing Inferno will address (Tech I that is), they are looking at rebalancing rookie ships to be a lot more utilitarian.

They still won't quite compare to Tech I - at least for now - but they'll be more useful.

That said...

+1 to making rookies optional - going through assets and trashing the 30 some-odd rookies I spawned during my Hulkageddon travels really sucked, and there's many more to go as the month progresses.
