CSM proved to be a liability to CCP

The list of things that went wrong at fanfest is a pretty long one, and the comment made by the drunk muppet in the pointy hat was only the final one.

What I would like to know is what is being done to the CCP staff members who made all of the other mistakes that resulted in putting him in front of a live mike and video feed.

The way I see it they bear a far greater responsibility for the outcome of that event than the drunkard in the pointy hat, because they were being paid to organise the event and he is essentially a holiday maker who has bought a ticket.

What he said was wrong, but the fact that someone would say something bad was easy to predict and easy to mitigate.

CCP employees screw up and they hang the blame on a player. It's T20 all over again and nothings changed.

More like CCP is becoming a liability to itself. The CSM has done some great things as of late and has helped push back on behalf of the players.

The overall problem is CCP has delusions of grandeur that have not gone away and have only shifted form and intensified. CCP is hell-bent on trying to make EVE as big as possible and is willing to make deals with the devil (Sony) to attempt to facilitate this.

The problem with getting bigger is the CCP we all know will die with it, once a corporate entity passes a point of critical mass it tends to lose itself and ultimately will take the safest approach to it's business model.

Mark my words if CCP ever see's over a million users fan fest will be totally neutered along with griefing and other forms of the meta game. Once you get really big it's all about maintaining a otherwise stable and boring image to preserve the largest amount of customers and keep your legal department with their feet on their desk.

God forbid CCP becomes professional and stop handing out t2 bpo's to friends or help goons to kill people that grief them.

If fanfest proved anything its that CCP still have a lot learn about being a company.

As much as people might want to blame the CSM, CCP also have to take responsibility over what happened.

This is technically true, but in their defense, this WAS the first Fanfest that had this kind of media attention. Naturally, they should have worried far more about the content they were presenting to the world, and in the future I'm sure they will.

Even then though, it took a godawful comment from a player with an uncountable amount of enemies in-game who would gladly use this to their advantage for any variety of reasons (from pragmatic reasons to simply '**** Mittens' reasons) to make this really blow up the way it did. If literally ANYONE else on the panel would have said something similar, the issue likely remains within the forums, assuming there would be an issue at all. That's just bad luck on CCP's part.

The biggest problem was how they handled the punishment, though. Waiting like they did and then throwing it down not even 2 hours after allowing Mittens and the CSM to come up with their own solution is the worst of both worlds, as it gave off the impression that the decision was due to external pressures (media, Sony, angry playerbase) rather than an actual violation of the rules (which should have merited a punishment pretty much immediately). That's a pretty dangerous message to send to a playerbase that exists on the edge of sanity and reason as it is.

Mittens was drunk on stage and thought he was god

i blame ccp for promoting drinking alcohol to teens that play eve online i have since reading this banned my children from playing eve online. CCP games is in no way a positive role models that my kids need to look up to.

Each year CCP participates in various game industry events around the world. If you want to set up interview or just meet some of our employees over a beer then please contact:
