It is the largest trade hub in the game. So natualy it is full of people. It also tends to have expensive ships/cargo moving in and out on a regualr bassis. This leads to people breaking other people's ships open to get at said expensive stuffs. And then there are the resedent scammers and people madposting about scammers in local. Think mos eisley. Only everyone is han solo and all the ships are Imperial star duckies.

Jita is the biggest tradehub ingame, and thus attracting ships with expensive stuff in them.
Gankers wait for those ships, and when one looks lucrative enough, they will shoot it in highsec.

Offcourse this means the gankers will die also (due to CONCORD), but there is allways one standby with a hauler to scoop up the drops.

It has allways been like that, but lately the Goons have fueled it a bit with their 'burn Jita' campain.

Jita is a high risk area if your corp or alliance is at any type of war. It's a central hub where you can fit ships because it has arguably every item in the game in that system. So you might run into some war-targets, so i could be dangerous. There are other reasons why it could be dangerous.

Goonswarm and its allies which is one of the biggest coalitions of players in the game decided they were going to attack the economic nerve of New Eden to put a dent in the economy (part of a brilliant ploy I'm sure).

They suicide ganked alot of people in Jita during that time and everyobody had alot of fun.

Its now over, Jita is safe once more (as safe as it can be anyway).

I'll answer in the order you asked.

1. Jita is dangerous because it's the largest trading hub in the game, larger than even the next five combined. People go there to buy and sell in large amounts, and the majority of expensive faction/deadspace/officer modules get traded there. Therefore, suicide-ganks are very common, as people seem to enjoy undocking untanked haulers with billions of stuff inside.

2. Yes. It's pretty awesome.

3. The more popular it became (Jita was almost always the main hub), the more dangerous it's gotten.

I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:
