Wormhole target numbers

I've decided to finally start trying out some solo wormhole work (c1 and c2). Getting bored of plexing in such over-crowded space and fancy something a bit different.

I'm going to fly an ishtar (room for tractors/probe/cloak/salvager) and my questions are:

What sort of omni tank DPS should i be able to maintain?
What sort of DPS is recommended?
I don't have great sentry skills, can i do this with t2 heavies?
What sort of range to sleepers orbit at? (related to the above)
Anything else i should know about sleeper fighting.

I know how dangerous wormhole space can be, so general 'd-scan' advice isn't necessary. I'm just looking for some guidelines so i can go in and not get melted by rats and have to spend hours getting back to safe space.

C1s and C2s are really easy to tank, you need about 180 omni dps tank.
Any damage works fine, they have even resists.
Drones are not the best idea as some sites will aggro (and kill, fast) drones often. Make sure you can kill frigates without drones.
Orbit range varies between like 5 and 50km.
They switch aggro around if there are multiple targets on the field, all ships need to be tanked. Also dont warp in a noctis until teh site is finished ;)

Wormholes in general are quite safe but if unlucky you are dead. Cloaky recons cant be detected before they are upon you when running anoms, dont fly too expensive ships.

Don't forget about the wormhole enviromental effects, they can seriously nerf your ships tank or dps if you're in the wrong ship

Wormhole effects

Dotlan lists wh effects when you search for the system name.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Mostly just common sense then. I can handle those numbers easily. i can get about 300+ dps with my skills on sentry drones, adn 450+ on ogre's. Hope the sentries will be enough although i'll carry both.

Only ever cruiser and frigate sized enemies in the C1's and C2's that I've seen. Never used a drone boat, but I'd imagine that'd influence what works best.

C2's most definitely have Battleship sized sleepers. I wouldn't recommend an ishtar tbh. The sleepers will go after your drones if they are the weapon system hitting them for the most damage. Only way I would choose ishtar is to use sentry II's and then have remote armor reps in high to keep them from dying.

Not true, i think all c2 sites have a battleship or two.

They aren't kidding about the drone aggro.

I watched someone run wormhole sites in a guardian once. He kept small reppers on the drones, and they tanked the whole site. Not very efficient, but funny as hell to watch.

Don't frik about, just use a Drake. Easy isk for minimum (r)isk.

An ishtar:

  • uses no ammo.
  • has a large hold for loot.
  • Does Battleship DPS with no slot usage.
  • can fit a strong omni tank.
  • can fit salvagers, cloak, probes and tractor beams.
  • Is cheap.

The drone downside is something im trying to work out. Perhaps using ECM to force gagro.

Are you running and amour tank or a shield tank? Even in the C1 sites you get a bit of neuting, and if you mess up the triggers you can find yourself capped out pretty quickly.

can you rep your own dps drones with your own repair drone? As for using ECM to pull aggro, that primarily seems to happen to me when I previously jammed a sleeper. That sleeper will then aggro me and occasionally the entire next wave will too. If I fail to jam at all then I don't receive aggro. Another thing that draws major aggro verse sleepers is reps. Perhaps wait for the frigs to orbit you, ECM burst them, launch drones, start rep'n them, then engage drones on a target.

The exception to the sleepers' overpowering hatred of drones is that they don't primary repair drones very frequently. So finding a buddy and swapping repper drones is pretty much the only way to effectively use drones in w-space without losing a bunch of them.

I've not tried sticking repair drones on a sentry drone, but I guess that could work if it's even possible.

how fragile are sentries? when i'm flying in my drake, i throw out hobgoblins and put them on the closest frigate. the moment they are switched on i just pull them back and usually they get away with just a little armor damage. after a few seconds, it's safe to get them out again for about a minute or two. you could try just sitting on your sentries and scoop the ones that are being targeted.

I should buy an Ishtar.

It is very possible to use your repair drones on your combat drones, although I've only ever done it as a "between sites" thing.

As a frequent Myrmidon pilot, sleeper drone aggro can be managed fine if you're used to paying attention to the drones. Having a drone-bonused ship helps significantly in giving you the time to get them recalled. Generally speaking, I wouldn't use Heavies unless you are right on top of a target BS so you can recall them in time as needed.
