Power of Two for an Industry Alt

Up to this point I have been pretty much a combat pilot in EVE, but have had thoughts about branching into Industry for a while. I have a feeling that I might really enjoy it. Today I have received an e-mail with a Power of Two offer and it seems to me like the perfect opportunity to get a second account and dedicate it to Industry. Problem is I am a complete noob when it comes to Industry so I have come here seeking some advice.

My main goal is to create a character that would supplement my main character well and improve my self-sufficiency by eventually being able to make ships, ammo, and modules for my own use. Secondary goal is to make some ISK on the side. It seems to me that when done right an industry character should make a good profit. Ideally after six months pass I want it to be able to at least pay for itself by spending earned ISK on PLEX.

So with the above in mind what do you think are the most essential skills that I should focus on learning first on the new character? What kind of things should I look into building if I want to make some profit in the long run? Please note that my main already has good Trade skills so selling/buying stuff on the market should not be a problem. Also how important are corp standings for an Industry character? I know at the least some are required for profitable reprocessing. What else could I train the Industry character in to make it a good asset for my main?

Finally any links to good sources of knowledge (blogs, guides, etc.) or other advice to a newbie industrialist wannabe are very welcome!

Basic Skills

Ammo, drones, rigs, and scripts are a good place to start in manufacturing.

Avoid ships like the plague. They are not for beginners (high investment, razor thin margins).

Get Production Efficiency V and Advanced Mass Procution IV on 3 alts of the indy account.
Then go from there.

The time it takes to train up all 3 characters to that should give you enough time to read up on a lot of information that is out there already

second Account:
You cant do much wrong with the power of 2 program, tbh.It is a very good deal (6,5 Month for just 3 plex) and a second account, especially for Industrial stuff (if not 35 accounts :p) can litteraly double your profits and make a lot of things much easier like; Scouting, Jump-drives, checking different regions for prices etc.

Standings:
Corp standings are important for the Fee you pay in stations, so If you trade mainly in Jita 4-4, you want to have decent Caldari State and Caldari Navy standing for end-game trading. Also, High faction standing allows you to put up a High sec Tower (requires a lot of standing)

what to buildCool
To be successfull on a long term, you want to be able to find that out on your own, do spreadsheets or use web-tools for researching niches and or high profitable products. Dont focus too much on the profit margin, keep the sell-quantity of the product in mind, aswell. A quite important tip is, that whatever you choose to build, dont sit on it and keep doing it without checking your numbers. Stay flexible in what you build and accommodate your production to the changing demands. Read Dev Blogs carefully, to catch Oportunities in time.

Most of those datacore skills shouldn't be taken past level III. Which is enough to let you manufacture everything.

You only need the datacore skills to IV if you are (a) doing R&D datacore farming or (b) doing invention on that character. And most of the time, you'll only need 1 inventor character for every 2-3 copy slot characters.

Thanks everyone for the advice.

I assume there is no issue with training for a freighter on my main account instead since I am only two weeks away from it, have decent support skills, and will be setting up buy/sell orders using it anyway.
