I'm considering writing a pretty in depth guide for an area of game play in Eve. Possibly a couple of guides. Can anyone point me to any information regarding the use of or restriction of use, of screen shots in this type of material?

There are numerous guides out there, they all say the same at the bottom about all rights reserved by CCP, just petition m8 to be sure

A'right. Was trying to use the boards and see if there was maybe a link to some info they already had out there. Searching hasn't revealed much. Was trying to save them the trouble of answering the same question for the 10,000th time but I guess I'll go that route.

I don't think you even need to petition it. As long as it's clear the pictures are from EVE you're not claiming them as your own, and actually advertising for them.

If you are going to be charging real life money for your guides then probably can't
If you are just going to publish a guide free to anyone then sure go for it

I didn't ask for legal advice, I asked for links to information regarding CCP's policy on this sort of thing. I figured other authors might know right where to find it. I'm sorry this wasn't clear enough that you could comprehend it properly. I'll try to be more clear when I post on the boards so as to not cause confusion for Eve's slower community.

I hate to ask, but are you one of the 2,000,000 subs that World of Warcraft recently lost?

Eve blogs, youtube vids and you name it. Make sure that it is said to be FOR EVE CCP GAMES copyright them, etc and arent collecting money from it, should be alright.

Well, to be honest, I probably have a lot less knowledge than you might have. But since the people in Eve who tend to know everything seem to spend most of their time on the forums trolling others, it leaves plenty of room for the rest of us to share what we know with newer players.

Why not put it on the eve wiki? I'm sure there wouldn't be any issues with copyright if you did that since it is on CCP's site....

Just a thought.
