Jumped into a hole and there's a TCU up? What's the point of putting one of these up?

They are there for lulz, and a good way to say "GTFO sucka".

I....wouldn't warp to it, if I were you.

It's a noob catcher. Put up a TCU, bubble it up and anchor the cans you use for storage (Roll) around it. You'll teach someone a lesson one day in what NOT to warp to.

No trolling please

I used to strongly discourage my pilots from placing TCU's in their wormholes, as it allowed visitors to see who owned the wormhole as soon as they entered.

Now that POCOs are researchable in much the same way, it seems like less of an OpSec breach these days. In fact, during our last system invasion, we erected a TCU in system basically to "plant a flag."

Same applies to Customs Office, If you put them up your corp ticker is visible to all so the above is redundant.

Edit:

Oh, TCU needs to be in range of your pos guns too.... Pretty fireworks.

Three reasons
1. TCU's are anchored to try and catch players who warp to them thinking "ooh" and don't have the luxury of a bubble immune scout/scan ship
2. It's a good way for an established and entrenched group to say "This WH is mine! GTFO!" or for an unestablished and/or unentrenched group to make themselves a target
3. There's no way to "claim" a WH system via game mechanics, until there is people that want their name attached to a system anchor TCU's as the next best thing.

Three reasons people put up TCU's;
1. They are suckahs and deserve to be pimp slapped

I've warped to quite a few TCUs in w-space just to check out the trap set up around them. I've never lost a ship to them.
