EvE launcher useless after 1 client is open?

Hi,
previously (before escalation) when I wanted to open 2-3 clients for my alts, I would open the launcher and hit play 3 times.
However, with the patch, when you hit play when a client is already open it informs you 'cannot update a directory from which processes are running.'

I know the error is fairly straightforward, but why change this at all? For a game in which so many people have alt accounts and multiple clients, shouldn't it be reverted so you can easily open them?
