Role:

*aim at Freighter/Orca* *BOOM! Headshot!*

I bet a Minmatar one with artillery would make a terrifying alpha ganker. Or the gallenteone with blasters for DPS gank.

OP's 12 and doesn't know what this is.

That's a Templar, an Amarr fighter used by carriers.

The ship you are looking for already exists.

I love how people who post these actually think that jump drives are a negative aspect on capital ships. You could not be further from the truth.

I really don't see the call for this besides highsec POS removal, which may as well be done AFK in a geddon. You are already able to fit dreads with sensor boosters, tracking computers and damage mods to the point where they become glass cannon, and I really don't see the point of doing that on anything with any less tank than that or it'd just get volleyed.

Also without a jump drive (only way too keep it balanced) there would be no surprise factor and they'd just make for easy kills.

I was thinkin' the role would be a cap killer. Use these things mixed in with a support fleet to kill caps, just with a lower barrier to entry and a bit easier to use (no cyno required). Right now it's almost a 2 bil investment (not to mention months of skilling) to go from BS to Capitals. The game skips from BS to Dread / Carrier with nothing in between. I see that as a gap. Think of when they added BC's to fill the gap between cruisers and battleships. How cool was that?

Actually, this gives me an interesting idea.

Maybe a light dread could be a battleship that can only fit a single dread sized weapon. AND 4 battleship sized weapons. It would only be useful for pvp, but it would be a cheaper way to bring newer players into a siege battle?

Mixing ammo is generally annoying as hell. I'd go with one and give it a bonus to up the damage.

But really this is a terrible idea, if you want caps: Go to lowsec. It's way underpopulated and could use the people.

The problem is that Caps are actually... pretty easy to kill. Any gang can kill a cap. A half fleet can bust a carrier in under a minute. A full fleet? Alpha's it. Caps don't need a ship designed to kill them. Now if you made it an easy to skill into supercap killer... I'd perk up.

So we make it easy to kill the super caps' support, eh?

Why does everyone keep mentioning frigates with cruiser weapons? Do you see a cruiser with BS weapons? **** no you don't.

It would be a destroyer with them, not a frigate. FFS.

Well noted.

Maybe about the time destroyers get split up into racials. Would be amusing to see Thrasher Mk 2 with medium artillery and Catalyst Mk2 with medium blasters. I'm sure the hulks will appreciate it.

I liked the idea of using the Black Ops for this.

BRILLIANT

give it two XL turrets and 6 large turrets.

consider how useless they are, this could only be a good thing

oh don't get me wrong, I also want all caps out of low sec as well. I think it would be awesome because it would open up new ship lines just for low sec. would be awesome if each of the three parts of space unlocked more and more ships.

You pull out Capital from lowsec, and replace them with some lowsec ships now hat you have an area of space without caps to factor in.

I know, right? I mean, by the time I actually got my carrier in 2008, I knew it wouldn't be the helicopter-**** solo fleet-killing monstrosity I had assumed capital ships were when I first started playing, but a carrier puts out DPS a little above a battleship (or lower, if you've got high skills and a well-fit battleship), can't jump through gates and is way more expensive. Carriers are useful in large groups but unless you've got a very good tactic or are lucky, alone or in groups of two or three they're killmail bait.

No... BCs arent SUPPOSED to have tanks.
Thats the the new ones didnt have em.
Thats why theyre taking the Drake's away.

No, they're taking the drake's away because it was ridiculously OP. The myrmidon, prophecy and so on still have a tanking bonus.

as mentioned earlier... the battleship siege module would be the best option

perhaps this could be the ideal Tech 3 battleship role.

by only allowing Tech 3 battles fit a siege module it would mean if u want to bash dickstars in high sec in a reasonable amount of time u need to take out your Tech 3 siege bs

another possible use for a tech 3 bs would be an anti super ewar platform. the jamming systems would only work on capitals/supers and not on subs so as not to kill off the roles of t2 ewar ships & scorp / blackbird

subcaps designed for shoting poses (or structures by general.... but we have tier 3 bc with long and short range fits for this)
not the worst ideas - we all love new ships..... but do we really need them?
