I'd respond but I promised my wife I'd drive her down to the Ozarks this afternoon to pick out a new Caucasian rug.

Are you suggesting there's a tidal wave or oriental players?

The word is ASIAN. Oriental is your freaking lamp.

I hope you know that oriental means eastern, and that the word is still used outside the US.

I've lived in San Francisco for 17 freaking years and have had to obviously interact with THOUSANDS of ASIANS from the many different countries that are Asian. The City itself has the highest concentration of native Chinese outside the Mainland.

This is the same as the difference between "black" and "colo(u)red".

Just because those other countries choose to still use the denigrating Oriental (reserved for objects), does not make it OK to them at all. They do indeed percieve it as racist, so WATCH IT on the forums if they are ever here since racism is a EULA violation when posting.

Just fair warning.

I use British English (being British and all) and as such feel happy to use the word oriental, does that make me a bad person.

Plus oriental rasist ? since when.

Ppl need to get excited about real stuff rather than look for trivial crap to get offended over.

Go ask the ASIANS why they find the word "Oriental" offensive when used to DESCRIBE PEOPLE.

I am not Asian.

Not to distract from my sick posting streak, but you're digging yourself a hole here. Not only have you been generally wrong, even if you had been right from the start, you would still have been bickering over an irrelevant point. "Racism" is a real an actual thing in the world which for the most part is about structural and economic inequalities in a society which serve to disenfranchise and generally lower the quality of life for a specifically targeted group, typically relatively politically defenseless within that society--which, interesting as it is, has more or less nothing to do with arbitrating the minutiae of standards of political correctness on a forum board about space videogame pew pew and as much as I'm sure they appreciate your effort I don't think you're really doing much here to support the plight of those intrepid San Franciscan Chineses you've so bravely defended with definition copypastes.

Tell the Asians (just as racist then by your definition,) to instead laugh about the fact that Americans can't tell the difference between one Asian and another and move on.

I think most people would prefer their country / heritage of descent. Russians, Indians, Pakistanis, Japanese, Chinese, Thai etc etc etc are all Asians, and the distinctions between each culture are much more nuanced than just saying "ASIAN"

Just sayin, if you're going to play the, "I know what other people feel" card...

I don't know why, but this conversation reminds me of my cousin trying to tell a "GENTLEMAN OF AFRICAN DESCENT WHO LIVED IN ENGLAND" that he was an African American.

Just asking if anyone has seen an influx in the amount of Japanese players in our community. The press release says there are 10s of 1000s of new players and if so I think we should say hi. I just cant find any of them.

Would you know if you did? Would they all be typing in Japanese or is it translated to english?

Its a term much like "Caucasian" or "African". Everyone would prefer being identified by the country or culture they are from, but its how you describe more general populations.

I'd be willing to bet Krixtal would mix up a Korean and a Japanese person, and as a result hideously offend them both.

You are just BARELY hiding that racism. You reek of it.

That is funny, since I am married to a South Korean woman, thank you.
