Welcome Japanese Asians, to the EVE-O Forum Fun where nobody can handle advice or have a descent discussion.

Is this a good place to tell people that the Japanese word for "Gorilla" is "Gorira"? Because that's a true thing you can look it up and not even me making fun of a silly sounding accent.

Yup. It starts when they deny racism. But that's America for you. ALWAYS in denial about it.

Protip: I have three citizenships and am so multiracial I call myself a mutt. But feel free to lump me in with your countrymen.

Definition of ORIENTAL
1 often capitalized: of, relating to, or situated in Asia

2 a: of superior grade, luster, or value b: being corundum or sapphire but simulating another gem in color

3 often capitalized sometimes offensive: Asian

4 capitalized: of, relating to, or constituting the biogeographic region that includes Asia south and southeast of the Himalayas and the Malay Archipelago west of Wallace's line

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/oriental

esp. #3

Translation: Booohooo, I've been proven wrong on all accounts and now I want to impose my local and obviously superior view and usage of a word on an international forum, and I will decry anyone dissenting as racist because I'm backed into a corner and have no logical recourse, booohooo.

(For the record, in Sweden, Oriental most often is used to romantice Asian countries or cultures, or decribe something of Asian origin with no negative implications)

Let's go on the orient express!!! Offensive or not, if a person use it in this context to describe someone from Japan he comes across as stupid. Most people using that word tend to only use it to describe a region more known for Turkish kebab and Persian rugs. I doubt anyone would even think of Japanese people if you use that word.

We know this. This is about using the word to describe people, not objects.

It is latin, it means east, started in use to describe what is today known as the middle east. The only thing racist about it could possible be that you equate all people in all of Asia as one people?! Like saying African for people in all of Africa. Or Americans saying Europeans?!

Lol

Let's move on and discuss the great news of this influx of new gamers that could add something to the game just as when we got the massive influx of Germans or Russians Big smile

I suspect the first time you find some will be when they are invading your soon to be former home and destroying your assets with determined efficiency.

I doubt you'll be in any mood to wave and say hi as your pod is vaporized.

Decribe something OR SOMEONE of Asian origin with no negative implications

Clarified, now now, have you ever heard the following quote?

"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

The best thing you can hope is to just stop posting, forever.

EDIT: As for the OP, I too would love to hear more about any recent influx of Japanese players.

Your posts have been increasingly terrible in recent weeks.

Take a break and come back. Thanks.

Also...

There are swaths of historic texts referring to people as Oriental. In the US, that's considered uncouth, but we also go to great lengths to try to apply terms to people that don't sound offensive----------that is, don't sound offensive to *white people*. In other countries that speak English, not really.

Hello, hello again.
