World of Darkness - The MMO Incarna should've been and one that linked into EVE

Dust 514 will interface with EVE as we know; but why did CCP not have the big sweaty nads to use their new MMO concept to again interface with EVE as Dust will do on the Playstation?

They have a backstory - a playerbase - a whole universe etc etc............... but they've gone solo with some vamp thing. Seriously why?? Too many eggs in the one basket?

Lets face it -- Sitting in Stations is not ever going to evolve into a full blown MMO environment. That isn't CCP's intention as it seems that it'll only ever be a sideshow for immersions sake.

Missed oportunity?

BTFW -

When 'the Door' does open -- our burnt out retinas will hopefully heal and adjust after the ethereal lights and harmonies
subside. I'm sure there will be a bar or cantina thing ;;;; (every MMO one almost) ;;;;which leads me to this question: this feature will be fine in stations with say 20 -30 people in them; but what will the local cantina in Jita be like -- slightly overcrowded?? GFX cards exploding? Rips in time and fabric?

Because none of the backstory of WoD has anything to do with spaceships...

Sigh -- I know WOD is not science fiction.

I'm fruitlessly (it seems) pointing out that the effort that has gone into WOD could have been better served by integrating CCP's new MMO into the EVE universe. Just like Dust.

The trollsters above - just htf did you get so many 'likes' in the the new forums lifetime - it's only been a few weeks?? Quality of posts??

I'd really like to see space vampires. The whole pirate thing is so juvenile. lets move up to teenagers now.

it's called not putting all your eggs into one basket...

who knows if anybody will care about the Science Fiction-themed MMOs in a few years ...

or maybe some other MMO franchise grows to dominate that market segment completely ...

CCP bought an entire dark fanatsy/alternate reality universe/backstory with the White Wolf purchase and the popularity (and customerbase) of that genre is probably not too closely linked to SciFi & spaceships.

Couldn't you whip up something a bit vampiric with the Blood Raiders?

I'm thinking something along the lines of "ancient dormant evil awakens in Blood Raiders, connecting them with the vampire lines from Earth's past"

: Mildly annoyed

CCP could have used the resources that they have spent on WoD on making WiS a separate MMO in of itself. But I feel that CCP wanted to create something new, as girtty as EVE, and that could tap into the same demographic they tap into with Scifi themed game but in the vampire genre.

New Fun + Diversification = ?

or

Coming up with enough fluff to justify making WiS stand alone.

Depending on how CCP goes about it, WoD will probably be similar to Eve. It will be perceived more as a niche game and have a slow and steady growth. A link between WoD and Eve is silly though and really shouldn't be.

Dear gawd !!

The OP (me!) made the point that instead of doing a separate vampire MMO why CCp did not do an MMO that's tied into EVE? Like an extension of Incarna where us walking in stations to a limited degree meets a full blown MMO. Forget about vampires and space --

Don't troll please .

Ignoring the silliness of this.
But I'd say that once they have something like WoD/Carbon running and tested.

I think the plan is that the technology in Carbon can easily be used to make other MMOs. If that is what you're getting at.
I think it'd be easy to do something like that. But it'd have to be something that has a good market.

Its because the WoD theme/storyline is interesting and makes more sense when it comes to releasing another MMO. As much as I do love Eve, I don't think EVERYTHING CCP does should revolve around Eve. Also the decision to make WOD to my understanding was part of the merger agreement with White Wolf.

Lovely.
You're getting me all hot and excited.

Going by some of the other responses. Not many others think much of your idea either.
You're a bit of an odd one.

I just said it should be possible to do it later.

Because that is Incarna, the Carbon framework is applied to all three games so there is hardly any WoD stuff that CCP has done that didnt effect EVE positively. From what I can tell the only devs working WoD are Carbon devs that are working in tandem with EVE dev on Incarna, 1 or 2 art devs to make concepts, and one or two marketing guys that slowly getting the word out to the existing communities that actually care about WoD.

You'll notice, though, that there is almost no info about WoD yet or any in-game trailers or any details on game mechanics. They're probably only spending 5-10% of resources on it.
