POCO in low sec

I'm looking to poke my head into some low sec operations in the near future. Part of those plans include some low sec PI. I have a question regarding POCOs and survivability.

If, wandering in low sec, I find a good planet that still has its Interbus customs office. If I were to blow up that office and replace it with my own and set the taxes to neutral players to something nice and reasonable.. (Like 5%) do you think such a station would survive undefended?

Could I get a low sec player to comment? Obviously nobody was hell-bent on using that planet since it still had its Interbus station, and if your average low sec dweller gets nice and cheap taxes from it, would they still blow it up for the lulz? Just curious.

In the cat-and-mouse game that is low sec, there is no shame in learning to be a better mouse.

depends on whether or not a lowsec corp lays eyes on your system. if you are lucky, noone will ever show up. if you're unlucky, your POCO will live only a few days.

I should buy an Ishtar.

In the losec region I use for PI, seems that most players were happy that someone else had gone to the trouble of putting up a POCO. Once we had got over the annoyance of having to re-do our bookmarks :)

Of course there might be someone bored enough to try and blow it up, welcome to Eve :)

since a poco is not a tech moon its not very likely to draw the attention of everyone 27 jumps range, especially with reasonable taxes

that situation might change if some bigger entity decides that they want to own each and every poco in a given area

POCO's in good systems are valuable assets, in bad systems they are hard to make worthwhile. Good systems have low sec status (0.1 0.2), a station and desirable types of planets. Bad systems have high sec status (0.4), no stations and common planets. Plasma and Storm planets generate a lot of profit currently, as enriched uranium and coolant command high prices.

So to answer your question: If you find a system with a station, low sec status, maybe even a high-sec exit and good planets, it's likely that someone will take it from you as it's a valuable asset.

Barren Planet
.3 security system
Has Several NPC stations
2 jumps from the nearest high sec system.

In the system, there are two storm planets that have NO customs offices, (interbus or otherwise), a lava planet with a player POCO and a few barrens, a gas and a temperate with interbus offices.

I'm tempted to bring in a POCO for one of the storms... provided nobody has rebuilt on them yet.

obviously not used planet is obviously not used

before you build it you should find out why Noone is using the Planet...
